Is your team feeling quieter, slower or a little more disengaged right now?

It might not be a motivation issue, it could be seasonal stress.

January is one of the hardest months emotionally & people are navigating low mood, financial strain, tiredness and some people even the effects of SAD.

When this goes unrecognised, team connection can drop quickly and quietly.

A simple, human leadership approach in January can make a real difference to your team.

Why not try:

• acknowledging the pressure
• making one small adjustment per person
• checking in with kindness, not performance

I have shared the full breakdown along with practical ways to support teams through the January Blues, in this week’s blog.

I’d love to hear how you are supporting your team’s energy and wellbeing this January?

I am BIG on communication in the work place however as employers, we often talk about performance, productivity, and results.

But we don’t talk enough about how communication impacts wellbeing.

I see & hear from others:

* Unclear expectations.
* Silence.
* Last-minute pressure.

These are not just operational issues, they affect mental health.

* When communication lacks clarity or compassion, stress increases.
* When people don’t feel informed or heard, they disengage.

Wellness at work starts with how we communicate.

Clear, human communication is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to look after your people. At Success Recruit, we believe wellbeing and performance are not separate conversations. They are deeply connected.

As we head into a new year, I have been reflecting on something that doesn’t get talked about enough and something I feel passionate about: how we communicate at work and how it affects people’s wellbeing.

We all at one point have felt the January blues, the slow start after the festive period, the inbox that feels never-ending, and the pressure to hit the ground running.

What makes it harder is when communication isn’t clear or compassionate. Vague instructions, last-minute requests, or silence can make stress feel overwhelming & suddenly work doesn’t feel like a place of support.

At Success Recruit, we are passionate about helping organisations not just retain talent, but truly look after their people. Supporting wellness is about creating environments where people feel seen, heard, and able to bring their best selves to work.

One way to do this? Simple wellness practices like sound baths. They may sound unusual at first, but taking moments to slow down, recalibrate, and clear the mind can make a huge difference, helping employees feel calmer, more creative, and more connected.

Strong communication + intentional wellbeing = a workforce that feels supported, motivated, and ready to thrive.

I would love to hear from others: how are you supporting your teams’ wellbeing this year?

January gives us a chance to pause, reset and think about how we want our teams to feel at work, not just what we want them to deliver.

The way we communicate in these early weeks matters more than we often realise. It shapes confidence, connection & trust long before targets and KPIs come into play.

I have shared three simple communication resets in the carousel below. They are small leadership shifts that help teams feel clearer, calmer & more connected as the year begins.

I would love to hear from you: What is one thing you are doing this January to support your team and set the tone for the year ahead?

How you handle a resignation says a lot about you...

More people are choosing to resign over email rather than face-to-face. As a business owner or manager how you respond in that moment really matters.

Do you simply say thank you & move on, or do you take the time to sit down for an informal chat over coffee and understand why they are leaving?

By having an honest conversation helps you understand why someone’s leaving, what might need improving can stop the same issues from happening again.

Handled right, a resignation can actually lead to better communication, stronger retention, and smarter hiring next time.

Have you ever walked out of a meeting and thought… what was the point of that? 🙃

I hear it all the time and honestly, it really doesn’t need to be this way.

Meetings should have a clear paurpose & if you are bringing people together and taking them away from their tasks, it should be because there is something genuinely important to discuss, a problem to solve, or a decision that needs everyone’s input.

If there’s no update, no action, no outcome… then maybe that time is better spent actually getting on with the work.

Respecting people’s time is one of the simplest, most effective leadership behaviours you can adopt because it builds trust, boosts motivation, and creates a team that feels valued, not drained.

It’s the small things that shape your culture. If you would like to discover more, book a call with me today: https://lnkd.in/eMGC-Sw9

What's one leadership behaviour you have adopted that works for you?

Preparation is everything when it comes to interviews.

It’s your chance to sit in front of someone and sell yourself but if you haven’t taken the time to research their company or understand why you are drawn to their business, why should they take the risk and offer you the role?

Doing your homework shows interest, effort, and enthusiasm. Gather a few golden nuggets about the company and role, they could be what sets you apart from the rest.

Good luck!
