The Secretary of State's proposals to uprate ICT teaching in schools is a really positive proposal; however the issue as ever will be how to ensure that all schools attract the resources to deliver an enhanced programme of study. Expanding computing in schools will require more kit and recruitment of staff from industry who can engage with the students.

There is much current discussion in careers circles about 'strengths based recruitment' as opposed to mere competency based recruitment. Talk about re-inventing the wheel! The quote below from TalentSmoothie sums up well the purpose of seeking formative careers guidance.

"Most companies hire on competencies alone. The problem with that is that just
because someone can do something doesn’t mean that they really want to do it.
So hiring on competencies never produces consistently high performance. When
people love what they do they perform better, have more energy for their work, are more engaged and stay longer".

Procrastination is a safety seeking behaviour that protects us from an unpleasant or feared experience. Michael Neenan and Windy Dryden have a good chapter on this in their book 'Coaching: A Cognitive Behavioural Approach'
