The HGV training landscape just changed β and a lot of new drivers are about to feel it.
After three years of helping put thousands of new drivers through their Cat C and Cat C+E, the government's HGV Skills Bootcamps are winding down in 2026. Without that subsidised route, the full cost of training now falls on the candidate β or the employer willing to invest in them.
Here's what HGV driver training actually costs in 2026, with no government support:
π Cat C (Class 2 rigid) β Β£1,800βΒ£2,500π Cat C+E (Class 1 articulated) β Β£2,800βΒ£3,800π Driver CPC (35 hours every 5 years) β Β£350βΒ£600β½ ADR certification β Β£450βΒ£750ποΈ HIAB / Moffett tickets β Β£400βΒ£800
Add the medical, the provisional, and the test fees β and a full Class 1 + ADR-ready candidate can be Β£4,500βΒ£6,000 out of pocket before they earn their first wage.
For employers, that's a problem β but also an opportunity. The companies funding driver training are now the ones filling their fleets. Driver development is no longer a perk. It's a recruitment strategy.
Whether you're a candidate weighing up training costs, or an employer thinking about funding development β we work with both.
