The Summer Term has arrived. We’ve reached that point in the year for school HR teams.
More hires. ✅ More checks. ✅ More moving parts. ✅

Lots of small things that need chasing, checking and keeping on track at the same time.
None of them are difficult on their own. But together, they start to take over.

What stands out is how different it feels when the process is properly structured and supported. The requirements don’t change, but the experience of managing them does.

“How long will this take?” is usually the wrong question.

When it comes to things like DBS checks, employment history or right to work, most people assume it's the checks themselves that take the time.

Sometimes they do. But more often, it’s everything around them that slows things down.

It’s usually the combination of different steps.
External checks, references, missing or incomplete information.
All moving at slightly different speeds, often outside your control.

More organisations are outsourcing BPSS screening.

At the same time, we’re seeing a growing number of companies offering it.

Screening involves collecting passports, address histories, employment records and sometimes criminal record information, so the standards behind the process really matter. Any provider worth trusting should be able to clearly demonstrate their governance and certifications.

Things like ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus and proper governance exist for a reason.
