Working on a personal growth strategy in both life and career can offer you perspective, ambition, goals and build confidence...

A common interview question is... 'Where do you see yourself in 5ļøāƒ£ years time?'

That is in fact one of the most important questions that you can ask yourself!

What do you want to achieve?

What are your passions and talents?

A written plan will change from one day to the next so regularly asking yourself these types of questions will keep you alert and engaged on what is important to you... šŸ™‹
You don't need all the answers right away, however putting the work now will only help you achieve long term direction and fulfilment... āœ…

It's incredible what an 1 hour can do...
When was the last time you gave someone 60 minutes of your time, undisturbed, no Netflix, no phone, no music... just you and them, eye contact, actively listening...?
I'm a talker... I tend to use 50 words when 5 would do! Once I realised this I had to make a conscious effort to open my ears not my mouth!
It's amazing what you can learn about someone... their aspirations, their difficulties, their habits and their beliefs...
An hour in exchange for giving another person an opportunity to tap into their mind and really think and speak about themselves is priceless... šŸ˜†

Over the last few weeks I've been asked a few different questions:
What actually is coaching?
What types of coaching are there?
What is the process?
Is it only for people within businesses?
Can I benefit from it personally?
What do I have to do?
How long does it take?
Does it work?
How much does it cost?

Luckily there are answers to all… the trouble is elaborating on them all in one go will be too heavy for one post… 'there's that word again…heavy' (name the film…?)

That's good though.… the feedback gives me an idea of what people want to know and a steer for what to post about…

However, to start us off, I believe coaching is a practice used to help someone create, work and succeed on goals… goals are personal and specific to the person being coached (a coachee).

Goals can be built around personal life ambitions or career aspirations, it doesn’t matter. As long as they are, as said before, specific to the coachee and focussed entirely on them achieving greater value, depth and focus in their life.

Depending on the individual, goals are already known or are not known. If known then they could be similar to the following:
'I want to start up my own business'
'I have a presentation to give in December this year and I want to it to be great'
'I want to overcome my fear of flying'
'I need to be better at time management because I have so much to do'

The possibilities are limitless and can be considered big life changes or small, either way they matter to the coachee. Using practical methods and frameworks such as GROW, SMART, SPACE to name a few, it allows for building greater strategy and direction around these goals in turn making them more achievable. The coach and coachee work on this during their sessions.

There are times when it may be trickier to identify a goal as they can't just be plucked out of thin air. At this stage the introduction of certain techniques to coaching sessions is important to allow the coachee the opportunity to identify some of their strengths, challenges, beliefs, values, ambitions in a variety of areas of their life. During this process both coach and coachee can dive a little deeper into how certain goals can be established in order to offer a more fulfilled and happier life.

There can be times when cognitive barriers come up which are preventing a coachee from moving forward with desired goals or certain aspects of life… coaching looks at addressing some of these challenges in more detail to offer a more rational and helpful thought process around them… however going into this may require a bit more time!

So hopefully this has given a bit more of a detailed overview on what coaching is… once again if you need to know more or chat things through give me a call or message… šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜†
