Steve is taking part in the forthcoming AJ Bell, Great Scottish Run, Half Marathon (13.1 miles), in Glasgow on Sunday, 4th October 2026. This came as a result of ESP Physio, Grangemouth, kindly donating a VALD Testing Session to ensure Steve’s damaged knees, as a result of very amateur football playing in his youth, would withstand the training. With approval given on Thursday, 6 August 2026 his training can now begin.
What clients will tend not to know is Steve hates running and holds the strong belief, which he has tried to say is covered within the Equality Act 2010, as a protected belief that ‘anything over 5km is a taxi journey!’ So why, we hear you ask has he volunteered to take part? Well the truth is it was in response to an article within The Times Newspaper, 17 July 2026, in which the situation facing Jo Fuller, 51, was outlined and he wondered, after reaching out to Jo, what he could do to try and help. Jo was diagnosed two years ago with glioblastoma, the deadliest type of brain tumour with an average life expectancy, after diagnosis, of one year and only 4% of patients survive five or more years. She took the ‘heartbreaking’ decision to sell her family home in Nottingham to access treatments not routinely available on the NHS. Jo has used the funds to pay for hyperthermia treatment which heats the tumour to 42C and 43C to kill the cancer cells. Hyperthermia treatment is used alongside chemotherapy costing £3,000 a cycle and whilst used for certain cancers, including bladder cancer, by specialist teams, its use to treat brain tumours is largely experimental though can be accessed via trials or private clinics. Jo has also put funds aside to pursue IOZK immunotherapy treatment in Germany, which is not licensed in the UK, and will cost her a minimum of £67,000. As Jo says herself, ‘I’ve always told myself I’ll be part of the 1% of long term survivors. I refuse to let glioblastoma decide my future’.
And so, if you wish to help Steve complete the half marathon, or secretly dislike him and want to witness his pain, and make a difference to someone’s life then this can be done through our just giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/stephen-maguire?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=CL
90% of funds raised will go directly to Jo with 10% going to the charity, Brain Tumour Research, to help those whose stories are yet to be told.
For those who wish to witness Steve’s pain, Abigail will be posting regularly behind the scenes information on Steve’s new instagram page: Steve Maguire () • Instagram photos and videos with Jack and I keeping clients and others up to date via our linked in page.
