John Audain – Retirement
Just a quick note of appreciation to one of our long standing drivers and member of our team John.
Johns Fact file is as follows:
· 1st shift was on 12.09.2016
· 9 years service to Driver Hire Blackburn
· 1110 shifts completed
· 33 companies work for
John joined us initially as a Class 1 driver looking for a few shifts per week. We soon found John to be a ‘go to’ driver. John was quite content to work 1 or 2 shifts a week but would happily do 5 if it helped our office.
I can personally attest to ringing John at hours most would see as ungodly and John going to do jobs for us both days and nights (depending on what pattern he was on) at short notice without even so much as a ‘um or erm!’
In, I believe 2022, John decided he wanted to stop doing Class 1 work but didn’t feel ready to hang up his steelies so we managed to get him to stay on and he starting doing van work for us. He was just adept on a van as he was on a Class 1. John actually helped us in the end with an ongoing need for a role that starts at 0200am each day Monday to Friday.
Then after much begging pleading for him to continue John made the final decision to retire – his last shift dated 08.11.25.
John will be remembered and missed for more than just his reliability on the job, although that is a massive part of it, but he will also be missed for his attention to detail, job completed and handled professionally even if the shift was a nightmare!! His timesheet was always immaculate; he also made an effort to come in and see us every Friday to hand in said timesheet.
John also had a really, REALLY nice habit of bringing us some biscuits or chocolates at Christmas – one habit I personally miss!!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank John for all of his fantastic support of his 9 years, I’m not going to lie, I had a tear in my eye went I said goodbye to him after his last shift. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as we enjoyed having you drive for us – one thing I am sure of is that you deserve it!!
