Carer of the Month for May ⭐️

Congratulations to Chantal who has been nominated by one of our lovely Service users as Carer of the Month.

We received a hand written note in the office with some lovely words about how administrative staff can get overlooked in all that they do and so efficiently.

The Service user wrote:“Chantal has combined office and care support so cheerfully and has been of great help to me in her ability to listen to worries and questions and her kindness in her response is with thought and patience. I know I can always go to her when emotional support is needed and so sending a big Thank you to Chantal”

Thank you, Chantal, for your compassion, patience, and dedication. The difference you make to the people we support does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly proud to have you as part of the Care With Dignity team. 💙

We had this situation today!

A telephone call at 15:51 from the pendant alarm team regarding mobility concerns for a service user who has no family, no neighbours able to check in, and no confirmed ETA from the emergency response team.

So what did Care with Dignity do?

We attended! We made him comfortable, prompted fluids, reassured him, and confirmed his next visit time before updating the response team by 16:02.

That’s an 11-minute response time.

In comparison to:
“You can probably get there quicker than us.”
Or in some cases, waiting hours for an ambulance.

Sometimes people don’t need hospital treatment. Sometimes they just need someone to come.

Because it isn’t always about medical intervention, it’s simply about knowing somebody will show up.

🌞 A huge shout out to our amazing team working through this heatwave! We may be in our summer uniform but we are still melting 🫠

Your compassion, dedication and hard work never go unnoticed. Thank you for continuing to provide OUTSTANDING care, support and kindness to our Service users, even in 35° heat and even hotter in the car between visits 🥵

Please remember to stay hydrated and look after yourselves too. We appreciate every single one of you 💙💛

☀️Summer is here and the Care with Dignity fridge freezer is fully stocked for the team ☀️

With a heat wave in full swing we need to remember to look after ourselves to be able to look after others and so we need to keep our whole team hydrated and comfortable.

We hope everyone enjoys the warmer weather but please remember that this is peak season for dehydration and UTIs for our Service users so here are our top tips.

✅ Ensure they drink a full glass of fluids with you at all visits
✅ Leave plenty of fluids accessible in your absence
✅ Set reminder alarms for them to drink
✅ Give or leave foods high in water content (jelly, cucumber, strawberries)
✅ Dress them appropriately (remove jumpers, vests, socks)
✅ Check the heating is off (they love to keep fiddling with that thermostat)
✅ Keep windows and curtains closed in peak heat, let in the breeze when there is one
✅ Get out any cooling systems they have ie fans across a bowl of iced water
✅ Remove flammables from window sills including those ointments you apply to their skin

❌ Dont leave hand sanitiser in hot cars
❌ Don’t ignore confusion, poor mobility or extreme fatigue, REPORT IMMEDIATELY before the fall
❌ Don’t forget the sun cream and hats when out and about

For elderly people, heat waves are genuinely dangerous, not just uncomfortable. Older adults often don’t feel thirst as strongly, can struggle to regulate body temperature, and many medications make dehydration worse.

Remember to check in on our elderly and vulnerable and keep them and yourselves safe. We hope you all have a lovely Summer 😎

Wow! What can I say about last nights care awards.

We had the most wonderful evening, and although we didn’t walk away with the award we are extremely proud to have been nominated and become finalists. It means so much to us and reflects all of what we put in to our role in supporting our community.

A huge thank you to our Service user Paula who nominated us and who joined us for such an amazing evening.

An even bigger thank you to our incredible team who make Care with Dignity what it is every single day and to Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers for hosting such a beautiful event celebrating the care industry and rightly so.

We are beyond grateful and our hearts are full. Keep doing the amazing work you do, the lives you impact every day truly matter.

Outstanding care isn’t just about turning up for scheduled calls. Sometimes it’s about showing up in moments of crisis when there is nobody else.

On Friday, one of our service users accidentally burnt down her kitchen. Housing contacted us Friday evening because they had arranged emergency accommodation in a hotel for a week, but had no way of contacting her as she doesn’t have a phone.

We attended, helped her pack her belongings, reassured her, and made sure she safely got into a taxi to the hotel.

Her social worker contacted us asking if we could continue providing care at the hotel. The hotel is in another town outside of our usual coverage area… but of course we arranged it.

Because outstanding care isn’t about postcodes, convenience, or “that’s not our area.” It’s about people.

When vulnerable people are facing distress, uncertainty and upheaval, they need consistency, compassion and support more than ever.

This is what care should look like 💙💛

17/05/2026

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes to an end, our team have been reflecting on how their role impacts their own positive mental health.

I loved reading all of their comments, but my favourite was:“I get to help people.”

Imagine if we all changed our mindset from “I have to” to “I get to.”

I get to go to work. I get to do my weekly shop. I get to pay my bills. I get to drive that dreaded long journey.

Not everybody gets to do the things we often take for granted.

Sometimes changing the way we look at things can change everything 💙💛
