Lyngby-Taarbæk wants to develop a sustainable food policy to reduce the climate impact of municipal food procurement and encourage more sustainable food habits among its residents.

To find inspiration, the Danish city turned to Bergamo, whose Food Policy Strategy and La Buona Mensa initiative offer practical examples of how cities can promote healthy diets, support local agriculture and reduce food waste.

Through a three-day exchange, Lyngby-Taarbæk explored new approaches to sustainable food systems, including Bergamo’s Good Canteens initiative.

When Stalowa Wola, Poland, requested an EUI Peer Review, it was looking for ways to attract and retain young talent, strengthen its local innovation ecosystem and diversify funding to support its Sustainable
Urban Development Strategy.

🤝 Peers from Jonadi, Italy, and Coimbra, Portugal, shared practical advice: create a Living Lab connecting businesses, universities and citizens; strengthen the city’s brand; build education-business partnerships; and explore new funding sources.

✅ 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Stalowa Wola has submitted several external funding applications inspired by the recommendations received during the Peer Review. The Stalowowolska Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego, as the city's development partner, supports this process by translating recommendations into project concepts, funding opportunities and international cooperation, building international innovation hub concentrated on space, defence and dual-use technologies.

🚀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝘁𝗼-𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀:
𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗶 (𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆): exploring how Living Labs and new forms of citizen engagement can help involve young people in shaping their city's future, tackle brain drain and strengthen the local innovation ecosystem.
With Coimbra (Portugal): developing the SPACE 4 TALENTS accelerator concept, learning how to connect research, business and public authorities, support space-tech start-ups and explore accelerator models and cascade funding mechanisms.

On 21–22 October, the European Urban Initiative (EUI) brought together Spanish urban authorities for its first Capacity Building event in Spain, Urban Innovation: Other Ways of Making a City.

The aim? To help cities integrate urban innovation into their local development strategies and turn ideas into practical action.

Through inspiring presentations, interactive workshops and study visits in Granada and its metropolitan area, participants explored national and European best practices across three key areas: institutional governance, funding, and data monitoring. Peer-to-peer exchanges also offered an opportunity to share experiences, discover new approaches and learn from one another.

With water resilience rising on the European agenda, the Lab offers a space to explore what this means in practice for cities – and what approaches can help turn European ambition into local action.

What can you expect at the EUI Focused Policy Lab on water management in Bruges?

The programme brings together cities, experts and practitioners for a mix of:

✔️ Interactive workshops
✔️ Peer-learning and exchange sessions
✔️ Site visits to local initiatives
✔️ Opportunities to connect with peers from across Europe

From water-sensitive urban planning and nature-based solutions to smart water operations, governance and financing, the Lab will look at how cities can move from challenges to practical action.
