S/Y of the day ⛵️

Today's sailing yacht of the day goes by a name that seems perfectly timed for the season. Meet S/Y Hallowe'en, a 24.7m Bermudan cutter designed by William Fife III in 1926, and she's far from a ghost story. She's a living legend that William Fife himself called "the perfect gentleman's yacht. She is a jewel."

Hallowe'en was commissioned for Lt Col J.F.N. Baxendale and launched in 1926 at the famous Fife and Son yard in Fairlie. But her true story began in the second Rolex Fastnet Race - Cherbourg, where she didn't just compete, she dominated. Racing in the fleet, Hallowe'en sailed home ten hours ahead of the next competitor. That remarkable record stood for thirteen years until 1939, when the course changed.

Her racing heritage is extraordinary. As Cotton Blossom IV she dominated ocean racing for years, holding important records across multiple seas. She was eventually helmed by Prince Olav, the future King of Norway, as the official yacht of the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club. She crossed the Atlantic in 1938, disappeared from view, was rediscovered in the United States, and has since been restored to her former glory.

Originally rigged as a progressive low-aspect Bermudan cutter, she later evolved into a yawl under legendary designer Rod Stephens. A major refit in 2009 at Fairlie Restorations brought her back to the forefront of the classic racing fleet.

Today, Hallowe'en races competitively on the Mediterranean classic circuit, from France to Corsica, Spain and Italy, reaching speeds up to 11 knots under sail. Right now, she's racing in the Vele d'epoca in Imperia classic yacht regatta. She combines authentic 1920s craftsmanship with modernised deck layout, able to race with 12 crew or cruise comfortably with 3.

This is what timeless sailing looks like, a yacht that's raced competitively for nearly a century and shows no signs of slowing down.
