Senior Full Stack Engineer - Ruby on Rails and Angular

Location: Remote
Salary: up to 6500$

Technologies: Rails 6, Angular 11, Azure-web services, Cloud66 to manage servers, Circle CI for continuous integration, Github to keep all the code, Slack to send memes and talk in emojis.

APIs: Facebook, Chargify, Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce

As an Engineer, you will build technology that helps eCommerce companies grow through creative marketing. Our company is a fast-growing, fully profitable, tech startup that focuses on helping e-commerce companies grow using social and digital advertising. We do NOT do programmatic bidding on display network-related ads.
You will be able to work in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. We are very lighthearted but work hard to reach our goals.

We are looking for a fantastic and motivated lead engineer with a minimum of 3-years of experience, who can work through unique challenges using the latest technologies.

What you’ll need to join our team
You Are a Fast Learner:
You can work with the latest technologies and are always up to date on the newest technologies on the market. It is ok to be a little nervous when using new technologies but that shouldn’t stop you from expanding your horizons.

You Love to Solve Problems:
You need to be a problem solver and know how to figure things out yourself. We are looking to start handing off most of the day-to-day tech duties. If there is a problem, you have to figure out how to fix it-- even if the solution doesn't immediately come to you.

You Have Attention-to-detail:
We expect you to take full ownership of your work. You are able to do things “the right way” even under pressure. It’s OK if things take a bit longer than they should but they should be done right.

You Love Testing:
We do unit testing, integration testing, black box testing and testing spanning the whole stack. This way you know that code that hits master is production-ready. Also so that all our engineers can enjoy their evenings and weekends. Test covered code = relaxed free time.

You Are Organized:
You are able to manage your tasks and keep your project’s timelines consistent. You also have great communication skills -- yes we use Slack and communicate a lot with it.

You Are Proactive:
You need to be a great researcher. Production issues can occur and have to be solved. Issues that require immediate attention can arise daily and need to be taken care of to avoid hurting the company’s bottom line.

You Can Take Initiative:
You are able and have fun identifying new features and constant ways to improve the quality and features of our software.

What's in it for you?
You get hands-on experience working in a high-paced engineering environment.
You get to join a company at the best part of the growth trajectory. We have found product-market fit and are about to hit the hockey stick part of the growth trajectory. You aren't joining a struggling startup that hasn't found traction yet. You also aren't joining an oppressive corporate giant. You get to move fast and still have lots of stability.
We’re a young company and you will have a ton of room to grow. You get to be part of a company that has over 50% year over year growth, is fully profitable, and has already gotten acquisition interest from other companies.
You get leadership experience and a hands-on role in developing features on your own. You'll work with the founders personally to figure out what features to develop and be able to dictate implementation on your own.
You get to work in a TDD supportive environment. We believe in tests. We believe in paying down technical debt. We believe it helps everyone sleep better at night and we make sure to allocate time for testing.
You get to work with the latest technologies. When we started, we were using Rails 4 and Angular 2. Now we are on Rails 6 and Angular 11. We mean it when we say that we are on top of our tech. You won't get stuck with a legacy stack doing endless monkey-patching trying to keep your stack hobbling along.
You get to deploy quickly. We deploy multiple times a week.
You get immediate feedback and a lot of satisfaction. The features you develop will produce results almost immediately and you will witness first hand the fruits of your work.
You get to work remotely. Everyone on the team is a responsible human being and gets their work done. As long as you do too, you can work in your pajamas.

What will you be doing?
You will be developing and implementing new features with our founders
You will be in charge of interviewing + hiring additional engineers to help
You'll be working with a lot of APIs: Facebook, Chargify, Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, just to name a few.

What should you do differently:
Make them achievable:
Don’t cheat yourself when making resolutions. If your goal was to quit smoking this year and the last 7 years, you are not very likely to kick the habit next year. If you set a goal that you won’t achieve, it will only have a demoralizing effect on your psyche and you are worse off. Be honest with yourself and set objectives that will challenge and stretch you but definitely are achievable with hard work.
Make them measurable:
What gets measured, get done as the wise fellow said. Buying a house on stilts, traveling to Patagonia, auditioning for the X-Factor are all goals that you will know when you have achieved. Merely saying ‘learning old church Slavonic’ isn’t good enough, it has to be more detailed than that. Make it: ‘will take 50 lessons and pass exam level B and be able to order fine wine at a restaurant in Slavonia’. If you can come up with milestones or goals, that’s even better as you can track your progress easier.
Write everything down:
We already know that goals that are not written down are simply dreams, this goes for New Year’s Resolutions as well. Start working on a master list of what you want to achieve, break it down into categories, and set estimated finished dates. These lists and deadlines will be hardwired into your brain and your unconscious will take you closer to your objectives every day.
Support network:
If you can, try to buddy up with someone else that has the same objective as it’s great to have peer support at hand. This could be friends or it could be other like-minded folks online, at the gym, at your philately club, etc. A support network is extremely useful when you ground to a halt or when you achieve a through the goal and find yourself a bit lost as to what to do next. People love to talk about their own exploits and how they got there so make use of others’ success.
Reward yourself:
Remember to encourage your small wins with little rewards. These rewards will keep you going when you need it the most. Rewards can be anything from a cup of ginger tea to a weekend in the city of lights. Whatever rewards work for you, remember to hand them out when appropriate.

So how could your business support employee wellbeing in these uncertain times? First of all, you need to fully understand how stressful these times are and accept each employee’s feelings as they are. There’s no room for judgement and negative labeling right now. Compassion and healing should be our primary standpoints.
These simple practices will help you build a workplace stress management plan or improve your existing one.
1. Revisit company policies and benefits
Before starting off, it’s important to think about your current approach to employee mental health. Do you have an employee mental health policy in place? Do you foster a culture of psychological safety and trust when it comes to mental health issues?

Offering a flexible working hour scheme is essential these days. Many employees are facing various challenges while working from home, especially those who have to take care of family members such as parents. This has put extra weight on their shoulders. Give them the chance to organize their schedule as they wish and allow them some time off during the day to decompress.
Here are a few more benefits that can promote workplace stress management in these strange times:
Extended sick leaves during the pandemic
Mental health days
Access to mental health counseling services
Online yoga and exercise sessions
2. Provide stress management educational resources
To back up the above and show to employees that their wellbeing matters to you, you could share tips and resources to help them structure their day in an efficient way. For instance, you could send WFH tips or offer free subscriptions to mindfulness meditation apps, such as Headspace or Calm, for stress relief.
3. Foster a psychologically safe and inclusive culture
Build an inclusive work culture that celebrates everyone’s unique personality with compassion and kindness. Encourage employees to discuss their concerns with their teammates openly and accept their discomfort without trying to fix it – remember that providing a safe space for someone to express is one of the best remedies to cope with stress.
4. Schedule fun and social time
The abrupt shift to remote work and social-distancing measures led to isolation, both physically and emotionally. Employees cannot socialize as much as they used to with their teammates at the moment, and rely solely on virtual communication to catch up with their work friends and team. Being physically siloed has a negative impact for many and doesn’t allow them to let off some steam, as they would naturally do in a shared working environment, during a coffee break or lunch.
That’s why you should encourage your employees to hop on non-work relevant coffee meetings and chit-chat exactly as they would in the office. You can also organize virtual game activities, such as quizzes, and allow employees to stay bonded and active in these crucial times, in order to release our negative energy.

Take care of yourself and have fun!

Virtual team building activities are guaranteed to improve employee satisfaction and engagement within your organization.
A virtual team building event makes the most of innovative technology, problem solving skills and management techniques to host team building activities online when your employees can’t physically be together.
These events come in a variety of forms - from interactive games, charity exercises or education seminars - and improve engagement for both small and large teams. By ensuring employees stay connected and engaged, virtual team building events help remote teams feel as tight-knit as those based in a physical office.
By promoting open communication and reinforcing teamwork, virtual team building events result in a range of benefits for your organization. These include:
improved employee engagement;
higher staff retention;
increased productivity;
better communication, collaboration and creative problem solving;
and many others.
Take care of yourself and have fun!

Having consistent onboarding processes in place has never been more important than it is right now to ensure that your new employees can be equipped to do their jobs and ensure your team performs well.

These are some of the best strategies for onboarding remotely during COVID:

Establish a buddy program

A buddy program is when an employee of the company is matched with a new recruit and they check in on them regularly for their first few months. This can be an informal meeting. During COVID they could have a video or phone chat over a coffee. The employee can assist the new recruit to learn the ins and outs of the company and to introduce them to the people they need to know about.

Create an onboarding hub

In an office setting, it's easier for new hires to ask questions as they encounter issues or uncertainty. To mitigate unnecessary confusion, create a central, virtual hub housing all your company documents, including the employee handbook and a code of conduct. Incorporate a breakdown of company systems and core processes, explaining particular resources.

Create and share your remote work policy
According to upwork.com 63% of businesses (pre-COVID-19) had remote workers yet only 43% of those businesses had a remote work policy in place.

The way we work has changed rapidly, and it may be a long time before we return to “normal” - if we do at all. Taking this time to fine-tune your onboarding processes can help you to ensure your new recruits settle in quickly and perform their best to achieve your company’s goals.

As a growing business, entering new markets and defining new strategies is becoming more complex, having an international team can be a real advantage.

Multicultural teams give your company a competitive advantage, because your employees will know the geographic area and the culture of the region where your target customers are located
Cultural differences can trigger substantial problems, often generating miscommunication and conflicts. However, multicultural employees are more effective in diversity management situations since they are used to handling different types of circumstances.

Working in a diverse group makes the members more optimistic about the organization or company. According to some studies, employees of international teams have a better feeling about their company than most homogeneous groups.

When you have a global team, the work atmosphere becomes more motivating, interesting and enriching. Employees have the opportunity to learn something new every day.

As you can see, it is so exciting to work in a global team. It takes effort and time to realize the benefits and a big investment when managing them. If done correctly however, building global teams can deliver greater benefits than traditional teams.

Social distancing and health measures mean we truly rely on each other to overcome.. Health measures should be the first priority of any business and if you’re working from home, you need to put systems in place to be successful:
• Set up your permanent work space
Dedicate a surface or a separate room rather than sitting on the couch with your computer
• Schedule your day
Use the same timetable at home to structure your daily to-do list. Make reminders in your personal calendar. Google gives alerts!
• Communicate with your team
You should be regularly communicating with your team. Daily check-ins, face-to-face calls, and Slack are all good choices.
• Eat healthy, drink water, stay fit
Take a break, find time for lunch. What you eat will impact your energy level and balance; focus on nutrition and hydration

Take care of yourself and be productive

17/11/2020

The remote interviewing process can be difficult as an interview via Google Hangouts is not quite the same as a face-to-face discussion. Candidates struggle too as they’re supposed to make a decision without seeing the company and team. Companies should have a clear vision of the position and assessment criteria in order to be 100% sure about their hiring decisions:
• Stay in touch with candidates
Get to know them better during the interviewing process, ensure they are updated regularly and are as ready as you for the next step
• Be prepared and time-conscious
Recruiters should prepare all questions, use time properly and without distractions, and pause to ensure the candidate has time to give their full answer
• Introduce your culture
Make sure the candidate knows your team. Prepare materials where candidates can find valuable information and see what culture is like in the company

Wishing you a great day and be sure to keep yourself happy and healthy
