🚢 German-Speaking Waiters for River Cruise Ships in France

On behalf of River Advice, we are currently looking for experienced Waiters to join modern 4*–5* river cruise ships operating in France.

One of the main advantages of this opportunity is the short rotation:

🔄 Up to 4 weeks onboard followed by 2 weeks of paid leave

The package includes:

• French employment contract
• French health and social insurance
• Approx. €1,726 net per month, with tips partially included
• €300 travel support for rotation leave
• First embarkation flight arranged and paid by the company

The assignments are available to start shortly and continue until 18 November 2026.

• Salary: €2,550 per month
• Rotation: 6 weeks onboard / 2 weeks off
• Travel allowance: up to €400 for rotation-related travel
• International working environment aboard a luxury river cruise ship

Previous professional experience in the respective position is required. For the Purser position, river cruise or shipboard front-office experience is preferred.

Over the past few days, we have received several hundred applications from candidates outside the European Union.

We truly appreciate your interest. However, we have noticed that there are many misunderstandings regarding visas and the legal right to work on European river cruise ships.

❓I have a Schengen visa. Can I work on a European river cruise ship?

Not automatically.

Many crew members from ocean cruise ships hold a Schengen Category C visa. This usually allows entry into the Schengen Area for short stays—for example, to join a vessel—but it does not normally grant the right to work on European river cruise ships.

❓I already work on a river cruise ship. Can I simply change employers?

Not necessarily.

Many non-EU crew members work under a Category D visa or another work authorization that is often linked to a specific employer. Changing employers usually requires a new visa or work permit process.

❓I live in Europe and have a Temporary Residence Permit. Is that enough?

In most cases, no.

A temporary residence permit normally allows you to work only in the country that issued it. River cruise ships operate across multiple countries such as Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Hungary, where additional immigration and employment rules apply.

Why can't backup jobs agency process these applications?

We are a specialized boutique recruitment agency. Unlike some international recruitment companies, we do not operate visa sponsorship or relocation programs for non-EU candidates.

For this reason, we can only process candidates who already have the legal right to work for the positions we recruit for or who meet our clients' immigration requirements.

Applicants from the Philippines are also subject to specific overseas recruitment regulations requiring licenses and partnerships that we do not hold.

This is not about nationality. It is simply about complying with immigration and employment laws that apply to our clients and our agency.
