What happens when silicone meets an aggressive biologic formulation in an autoinjector, all within a single delivery system?

SHL Medical and Stevanato Group have conducted a joint study examining different syringe siliconization approaches in a pre-filled syringe (PFS) autoinjector system using a high-polysorbate, dupilumab-like formulation.

The study evaluates the performance of the Molly 2.25 mL autoinjector combined with Alba® and Nexa® pre-filled syringes under accelerated aging conditions.

At PDA Universe 2026, the results of the study will be shared in a poster authored by Dr. Nina Fetz and Enrico Barichello, and presented on site by Thomas James and Alan Xu. The study looks at key syringe-device performance parameters across different aging time points.

If you’re working with high-concentration biologics or PFS-based systems, visit the poster for a closer look at the study findings.

Switching to a new GLP-1 injection device is not always as simple as learning a new set of instructions.

When people have experience with one injection device, they often bring existing habits, expectations, and mental models to the next. While this can sometimes help, it can also lead to negative transfer, where familiar behaviors from a previous device result in use errors, reduced efficiency, or uncertainty when using a new one.

At PDA Universe 2026, Thomas Stuedeli, SHL Medical’s Head of Usability and Industrial Design, will share findings from a human factors study examining how prior device experience influences user behavior, task performance, and confidence when interacting with a novel GLP-1 injection device.

Join the session to learn how these insights can support usability engineering, risk identification, and the design of safer and more intuitive drug delivery systems.

This October is looking a little crowded, as we make three stops across two continents. 🙌

From what changes when delivery volumes increase to the broader challenges shaping device development, SHL Medical teams will be on the ground sharing what we’re working on and connecting with partners across the industry.

Palm Springs. Milan. Boston. See you there.

Building a strong manufacturing presence also means becoming part of the community around it.

At the 2026 SC Workforce and Manufacturing Summit, SHL Medical joined manufacturing leaders from across South Carolina to exchange perspectives on operational strategies, workforce development, and the priorities shaping the state’s manufacturing sector.

We were also proud to be recognized as a finalist for South Carolina’s 2026 Emerging Manufacturer of the Year, reflecting the progress of our North Charleston facility and its growing contribution to the region’s manufacturing landscape.

Since its grand opening in 2025, the 360,000-square-foot facility has grown to more than 400 colleagues and continues to expand its production capacity, with around 110 injection molding machines being installed in phases. Together with our operations in Deerfield Beach, Florida, North Charleston is strengthening our end-to-end manufacturing capabilities and bringing commercial-scale capacity closer to pharmaceutical and biotech customers in the US.

As the site scales, it continues to strengthen MedTech manufacturing expertise in South Carolina and support combination product programs in the US and beyond.

As injectable therapies evolve, increasingly complex clinical and technical requirements are driving demands for novel drug delivery systems.

At this year’s Combination Products Seminar in Tokyo, Markus Bauss, SHL Medical’s Head of Business Development APAC, and Nils Ronquist, Principal Engineer, Customer Delivery and Care, will share the considerations behind developing specialized devices for specific clinical and technical needs.

Drawing on SHL Medical’s microdosing device for retinopathy of prematurity and the Reunite autoinjector as case studies, they will explore how established autoinjector expertise and proven technologies can be adapted for specialized applications. They will also examine how usability and robust performance are considered throughout the development of these devices.

Join the presentation on September 16 at 11:45 AM in Tokyo to learn how established device expertise can address emerging drug delivery challenges.

The first program teaches you what it takes. The next teaches you how to do it better.

After 20+ combination products, those lessons became more than experience. It’s an operating model.

That’s what two decades of DAI have built: a shared way of working between SHL Medical and our partners.

880M+ units later, the knowledge is still growing.

To every partner and employee who has been part of the journey, thank you. The next 20 years start with everything you built.

As artificial intelligence becomes more accessible, knowing how to apply it effectively and responsibly becomes increasingly important, especially in a regulated industry such as medical device manufacturing.

We held a two-day hackathon to give colleagues the opportunity to put this into practice. Six cross-functional teams applied AI to real business challenges and developed working solutions, experiencing collaborative innovation while strengthening AI literacy and judgement around where AI fits.

In our latest blog, Alex Stoeckli, Head of AI and Data Competence Center at SHL Medical, shares what we learned from the hackathon and how we are building AI as an enterprise capability to support better-informed decisions and improve processes across device development and manufacturing.

From a rainbow start line in June to a relay baton in August, colleagues from our Sweden office have traded meeting rooms for running routes, taking part in two community events that brought people together around movement, connection, and a good cause.

There were plenty of kilometers, plenty of encouragement along the way, and one result worth celebrating: our relay team finished 59th out of more than 1,000 teams. Others also joined the walking event, making sure there was more than one way to be part of the day. 💪

But beyond the result, what stood out most was the spirit behind it: colleagues from across the organization, including one of our C-level leaders, showing up for one another, spending time together outside of work, and connecting with the communities around us.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, cheered, and made these moments possible. Here’s a little snapshot of SHL Medical culture in motion. 👇

Did you know one of the first semi-automatic testing machines in the self-injection industry exists because of DAI?

It wasn’t planned as an industry first. DAI simply needed validation at a scale no existing equipment could support. So, we built it ourselves. The solution was novel enough for our partner to file a patent.

That set a pattern.

💡DAI needed tighter spring precision, so we brought spring manufacturing in-house.

💡DAI needed testing at scale without consuming large quantities of drug-filled containers, so we developed our first container-free test method.

💡DAI needed closer control over molds and fixtures, so we internalized tooling.

What began as practical solutions for one device became part of how SHL Medical develops and manufactures the devices that followed.

Every manufacturer has an origin story. A large part of ours starts with DAI.
