Notice of Approval: Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan – Planning Amendments

This is to serve notice that the Council of the Town of Yarmouth at its meeting on February 12, 2026 at 6:30 pm, at Yarmouth Town Hall, 400 Main Street, approved the following:

Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan - Planning Amendments

The approved amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw clarify permissions for accessory dwelling units, refine residential lot requirements, enable more housing downtown and update regulations for supportive housing. The approved Land Use Bylaw amendments also include a set of rezonings of lots in proximity to several key Town institutions such the Yarmouth Hospital and the Nova Scotia Community College. These changes are directly associated the federal Housing Accelerator Fund initiatives.

Town of Yarmouth, NS: - areas affected Wednesday, May 6th Updated

The Yarmouth Water Utility's water main flushing program is in progress. Flushing will take place today, Wednesday, May 6th, from 9 am to 4:30 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm in the area of: Pleasant Street to Water Street, from Albert Street to the south town line (2535 Chebogue Road). Click the link above for an approximate map.

Some discoloration and fluctuation in water pressure may be experienced during this period. Customers are advised to not wash clothes during this time. The Yarmouth Water Utility apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Traffic Notice: Extended Closures on Water Street Update

Work has moved along well recently with the Water Street infrastructure upgrade project. Please be advised that extended street closures on Water Street that began Tuesday, April 28th, will come to an end today, Tuesday, May 5th, at 6 pm. Please note the following:

➡ Water Street between Chester Street and Richards Lane will reopen to vehicular traffic at 6 pm today, May 5th.

➡ Richards Lane will reopen to traffic at 6 pm today, May 5th.

➡ Water Street between Richards Lane and Cann Street will remain closed to traffic, with only local traffic to abutting businesses/residences permitted.

➡ Water Street between Richards Lane and Cann Street remains closed to all pedestrians. Pedestrians are asked to please use the Yarmouth County Rail Trail as a detour.

We thank everyone affected for their continued patience as we complete this important infrastructure project.

Town of Yarmouth, NS: Traffic Control on Prospect Street until 4:30 pm

Please be advised that infrastructure repairs will be made on Prospect Street this morning. The work will take place between Brunswick Street and Hood Crescent from 9 am until approximately 4:30 pm. Traffic control will be in place.

Please follow all traffic signs and laws.
Slow down in the affected area and take extra precautions.
