On September 23, we welcomed 50+ colleagues from nearly 30 newcomer-serving organizations from across Manitoba to Manitoba Start for our Open Doors event.

Organized by Manitoba Association of Newcomer Serving Organizations (MANSO) in partnership with RRC Polytech, the Open Doors initiative brings newcomer-serving organizations together to learn more about one another’s work, build connections, and explore opportunities to collaborate.

It was a pleasure to welcome colleagues from across the sector and share more about Manitoba Start’s programs and services. We also appreciated the opportunity to learn from others about the important work they are doing to support newcomers in Manitoba.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, connected with our team, and helped make the day such a warm and engaging experience. We’re grateful for the partnerships that help us work together to better support newcomers in our community.

Today, Manitoba Start welcomed Big Freight Systems Inc. for an engaging information session for newcomers interested in exploring career opportunities in the transportation and logistics industry.

Participants learned more about opportunities for long-haul truck drivers and heavy-duty mechanics, as well as roles in operations, recruitment, safety, and driver services. The session also covered the hiring process, position requirements, employee benefits, and tips for applying successfully.

SUCCESSFUL! Yesterday, Manitoba Start hosted a Hospitality Sector Job Fair, creating a focused opportunity for job seekers to meet employers, showcase their skills, and explore new career opportunities.

A few highlights from the event:

✔️ 58 interviews conducted
✔️ 3 participating employers Sparrow Hotels, Canad Inns, and True North Sports + Entertainment.
✔️ Candidates were pre-screened by Manitoba Start to help connect employers with job seekers whose experience and interests aligned with available opportunities
✔️ Face-to-face conversations and on-the-spot interviews with employers

🤝 Thank you to Jessica Starr, Kerry Swan, Simran Chadha, and Joselyn O. for taking the time to meet with our clients and support meaningful employment connections.

On Tuesday, Manitoba Start was pleased to host a hiring event with West End Radiators, a Winnipeg-based company specializing in heavy-duty cooling systems, radiator repairs, and custom manufacturing.

Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the company, its workplace culture, and career opportunities in the manufacturing sector.

The event also included on-the-spot interviews, giving candidates a chance to connect directly with the employer and explore their next career opportunity.
