REAP (Research Entrepreneurs Accelerating Prosperity) Research Entrepreneurs Accelerating Prosperity (REAP) - a UW digital sandbox where students & industry work on funded projects.

REAP stands for Research Entrepreneurs Accelerating Prosperity. REAP brings creative academic and private sector experts to explore new technologies –especially those involving interactivity, responsiveness, and digital display environments – in order to spark “research entrepreneurship.” Research entrepreneurship departs from the traditional “lab to patent” model. It focuses more on finding new a

pplications of, and uses for, emerging technologies than on creating technologies from scratch. Specifically, this model encourages researchers to turn creativity into prosperity by engaging in innovation and entrepreneurship. To turn creativity into prosperity, REAP is designing a “digital sandbox for serious play,” where students, faculty, and industry experts work on funded projects that open up new markets – and with them, new sales opportunities – for visual display and signage technologies. Funds generated by REAP’s successful entrepreneurship funnel back to the program, providing the next group of students with the intensive, hands-on experience of taking an idea from conception to realization to adoption. REAP is made possible by a generous donation from Christie Digital Systems, Kitchener, a company who shares our passion for turning good ideas into real opportunities. REAP is also made possible by a generous contribution of space, infrastructure, and expertise from Quarry Integrated Communications, St. Jacobs, home to our new Digital Sandbox.

You will have the opportunity to work with the newest interactivity and display technologies, design applications, work with professionals – all while being. Students with REAP experience will have an extensive professional portfolio, a fun experience, and be at the head of the line for jobs in the digital design, media, and interaction industries. If you’re a business. REAP will develop and commercialize student-built new applications – designed to extend the functionality and increase the sales potential of your products – by developing and deploying a new entrepreneurship model. REAP’s specific objective is to develop applications rapidly, test them thoroughly, and then launch them successfully to market. We look to business for funding or in-kind contributions to support the personnel, infrastructure, and networking required to conceive, create, and perfect REAP applications.
