Ashley S- IHOP, New Westminster

What are your 3 favorite things about working at International House of Pancakes, also known as IHOP, Ashley’s Employment Specialist asked;
Without hesitation, Ashley replied:
1. My co-workers are really great with me.
2. There are lots of hours and shifts available so I’m able to save up to buy things that I want for myself.
3. I’m gaining lots of experience working in the Foods Industry.
Ashely also expressed that she doesn’t mind the added perk of an IHOP meal during her shift!

Ashley has been working for IHOP for 2 years as a dishwasher. Her experience with IHOP includes having to make adjustments due to the pandemic. Ashely expressed “IHOP, was really good to me during the pandemic, our health was important to them. They put in protocols at work to try and make it as safe as possible for staff and customers.”

Ashley has come a long way since she first started, she’d be the first to tell you that it wasn’t always easy adjusting to the pace of a busy restaurant like IHOP and getting used to the physical nature of the work.

Through it, all, IHOP and its staff supported Ashley and gave her the best training possible. They kept encouraging her and provided any support that Ashley needed during her shifts. Ashley’s manager Peter had this to say, “Ashley worked hard and persevered and now she is a superstar, she is a very important part of our staff!” He is amazed by the growth that Ashley has shown, the sky is the limit for her capabilities.

Great work Ashely and congratulations to IHOP at New Westminster for being our Employer of the Month!

In looking for her first job, Jenna & her family turned to posAbilities Employment Service. Jenna was noted to be shy & to speak with a quiet voice. She did however know that she wanted to work in the retail sector providing customer service. Jenna worked with her Employment Specialist (ES) to build some essential skills & the ES marketed her skillset in the community in search of a supportive Employer. This is when Jenna & her ES met Bobbie, a Manager of Mark’s in Maple Ridge.

Picture this…Jenna who described herself as shy was applying for a Sales Associate position right at the beginning of the busy Christmas Season! Bobbie saw Jenna’s potential & great smile (even through the face mask required at the time). The ES provided job coaching to support Jenna to become acquainted with her roles, responsibilities & role modeling customer service techniques. Soon Jenna was trained & ready to work without on-site support from her ES. Instead, she was learning from her supportive team.

When Jenna reached her 3-month employment milestone, the ES visited Mark’s to check in on her progress. The ES observed Jenna-a confident Sales Associate who was actively serving customers & supporting the fantastic customer service this Mark’s location is known for. Jenna’s team values her contribution & everyone has taken note of her personal growth. Something that was achieved as a result of the supportive environment provided by her team at Mark’s Maple Ridge.

What’s Jenna’s favorite part of her job you might wonder…helping customers in her community to have the best shopping experience!

Make your spending purposeful. Patronize businesses that share our vision; Inclusive Communities, Enriched Lives.

Warm Regards @ Mark's

Employer of the Month

ECOSAN Hygiene is our January Employee of the Month. ECOSAN is a Canadian-owned company that specializes in commercial laundry, facility sanitizing, and distribution of quality janitorial products. From a humble beginning of a “one man and a van” business, ECOSAN has since expanded to over 200 employees and 6 locations across 4 Provinces.

One of those employees is Anthony. Anthony has been working at ECOSAN since September 2021 as a Sorter. This is Anthony’s first paid employment and he couldn’t be more proud. When asked what he likes most about working at ECOSAN he replied,

“I like working hard and doing my job, it’s been a big learning experience for me to see what it takes to be a good employee and to be efficient. My manager Cory has really supported me and has been patient with me since I’ve started here and now I feel like I'm starting to be good at my job”

As a Sorter, Anthony spends his shifts sorting client products such as linen, towels, and sheets so that they can be washed in an efficient and organized manner. Most recently, Anthony has also added sanitizing and cleaning the warehouse to his tasks which is much needed in the world we live in today.

Cineplex Cinemas Metropolis is the December Employer of the Month!

When you are want to watch the newest movie releases on the large screen with the best sound systems, you go to Cineplex Cinemas Metropolis! Ranvir has been working at Cineplex since 2019 and was laid off during the pandemic like many others. Luckily, Ranvir was able to return to his job in June 2021 where he was able to see his team and watch his favorite movies again. With greater COVID precautions and impressive cleaning routines, the team at Cineplex was able to open its doors and guests were able to finally watch movies in the cinemas.

Cineplex took all necessary measures to make their guests feel safe and welcome. Ranvir is an important member of the enhanced cleaning team where he made sure all the seats were properly sanitized after each showing and wiped high touchpoints throughout the theatre. Ranvir’s favorite position at Cineplex is the podium where he greets and checks all the guest’s movie tickets. A recent addition to his role now is to check that all guests have proof of vaccination and government ID before entering.

The manager said “Ranvir is friendly and energetic. The guests always respond well to him. Ranvir is passionate about movies and is a good fit for this job.” Good job Ranvir and Cineplex Cinemas Metropolis for being the Employer of the Month!
