UBC Sociology Students' Association Building community, empowering students, connecting students and faculty
WEBSITE: blogs.ubc.ca/ubcssa They are people too!

BUILDING community means more than hosting a BBQ at the start and end of each term. The SSA envisions an environment on campus where undergraduate, graduate students and faculty regularly participate in social and academic events, strengthening relationships within Sociology and with other departments. The SSA aims to provide a platform where interdepartmental interactions will become the norm. EM

POWERING students happens when students have the ability to freely make their own choices, ask questions, and raise their own voices. The SSA envisions a student society where all students regardless of seniority can ask questions and receive answers about the discipline, the department, the program, or anything else they may be curious to know about (including the very common question of "what can I do with a Sociology degree?"). We also believe that creating spaces to discuss current social issues is a form of empowerment. CONNECTING junior students with senior students and faculty for career development. Mentoring programs, information sessions on careers options, graduate schools and admissions, the honours program, and undergraduate and graduate research will be integral for bringing the vision of the SSA to life. In addition, we invite undergrads, grad students and faculty to participate in all of our events as equals. DISCLAIMER
