Without proof of work shining bright on your resume, it's quite difficult to get hired. And yet, how does one even gain experience if we never get hired?
It's a conundrum faced by almost all beginners and one we have found a solution to:

1) Volunteering Options: Below is a brief list of options you can look up when trying to gain experience in the beginning. Most of these places are hiring year-round and are great options to start with.
- Nonprofits
- Community Groups
- Professional Associations

2) Projects & Portfolios: Use your portfolio to showcase the depth of your understanding on the subject matter at hand. Try to include a variety of projects within your domain that resemble a diverse clientele and then you can pick and choose which ones to send where.
- Personal Projects
- Case Studies

3) Internships & Co-ops: These can be any variation of the below combination but it is crucial not to have high expectations for salary. Of course, it's good to be picky when you have offers in hand but it's wise to apply for any positions you wish to see on your resume going forward.
- Paid vs Unpaid
- Short-Term Placements

Almost everyone gets nervous before an interview. I know I did.

A lot of us think that to be confident means never to feel anxious. That's just not true. All we need is a ton of preparation and the right mindset going in.

Here’s what really helps:

1) Practicing out loud: Get a mirror, stand in front of it and practice speaking with clear, concise words. Practice the most common interview questions such as 'Tell me about yourself' or 'How are you?'.

2) Build a pre-interview routine: Create a short routine that helps you feel centered before interviews. This could include:
- Listening to a favorite song
- Taking a few deep breaths
- Reviewing a list of your accomplishments
- Standing tall and practicing confident body language

3) Be kind to yourself afterward: No interview is perfect. Even strong candidates stumble over questions or think of better answers later. That’s perfectly normal so don't beat yourself up over things you could've said better but didn't.

When you're young, you dream of having your life figured out by 30; to have a lovely job, a few cars and no credit card debt-
Well, we're getting ahead of ourselves.
The point is that this picket fence dream we're sold, tells us we need to have our lives figured out by 30. At the very least, we MUST get a stable job, right? And if the job doesn't turn out to be fulfilling and picturesque? Well, that's just how life is, isn't it?
No. You're not supposed to suffer through a mediocre, unfulfilling job just because society and its norms demand it.
And so, if you've ever thought of switching your career at 30, here's 3 things to keep in mind:
1) You're not starting from zero: No matter how impossible your pivot seems, there are skills you can take into your new job, even if they're only soft skills. This automatically puts you at more of an advantage over a fresher applying for the position.
2) Test before you quit: Volunteer for the role if it exists within your organisation (and even if it exists outside your organisation!) Try to gain as much hands-on experience adjacent to the position of your dreams as you can because it will certainly come in handy before you decide which role to pivot to.
3) Fear is normal, not fatal: No matter what decision you tackle, there will undoubtedly be consequences. Be prepared for these consequences but at the same time, expect to be scared of some of them. Fear is a normal response to a life changing decision and it actually helps sometimes (if you learn to use it well).

Wanna know what's the one missing link between you and your dream job? It's good communication skills.
Building them isn't easy, but when you do, there really is no looking back.
Whether you’re sharing ideas, resolving conflict, or building relationships, how you communicate makes all the difference.

Here are a few simple ways to instantly level up your communication skills right now:

1) Practice active listening: As opposed to planning all your replies while the other person is talking, actively listen to what they're saying, especially if they're asking a question.

2) Pay attention to body language and tone: Look for crossed arms, frowns, or weary sighs.

3) Be clear and concise with your message: Do not over-explain. Use fewer words but use them wisely. Conversely, if you see your interviewer getting frustrated with how little you're speaking, explain your thought processes more. Pay attention to their body language for clues on when you've explained enough and they're ready to move on to the next question.

4) Ask thoughtful questions to show understanding: Don't be afraid to ask follow up questions after you've listened closely to the questions asked.

Now, think about the last conversation you had. Did you feel truly heard and understood? Did you practice active listening? Tell us in the comments down below and don't forget to visit https://www.searchmejob.com/ to clinch your dream job at the earliest!

You know that choosing a career isn’t just about a “stable job” or following the crowd. What you need is to find something that clicks for you.

If you're at the precipice of making a career choice or if you're standing at a crossroads in the midst of your career, I got you.

Here’s a simple guide to finding your perfect career in 7 steps.

1) Self-reflect: What tasks make you lose track of time? What environment suits you best?

2) Map your skills: Both technical and soft skills matter. Match them with careers that value them.

3) Explore before committing: Internships, volunteering, shadowing. Do it all so that you can try out different jobs before you commit to any singular role.

4) Consider values & lifestyle: Flexibility, growth, stability. You must know how this job fits your life.

5) Don’t fear change: Starting from scratch or pivoting are not signs of a failed career but rather of a growing individual.

6) Talk to people: Connect with anyone you can. Talk to friends, acquaintances, friends-of-friends and more.

7) Trust yourself: Data helps yes, but your gut matters. Take advice from as many people as you'd like but remember to stick to what that little nagging voice in your head tells you.

Career paths are messy, evolving, and personal—but if you experiment, adapt, and pay attention to what feels right, you’ll find a path that’s more than just a job.
