For too long, Canada has made it easier to trade with other countries than with ourselves.

Internal barriers still make it harder than it should be to move goods, deliver services, recognize credentials, and connect workers with opportunities across provincial borders.

And at a time of economic uncertainty, that simply doesn’t make sense.

OCC President and CEO Daniel Tisch discusses how Ontario can lead the way to bring down interprovincial trade barriers, and build a more resilient, more productive, and more unified Canadian economy.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce welcomes the federal government’s “AI for All” strategy as a meaningful step toward strengthening Canada’s productivity, competitiveness, and long-term economic growth.

We are encouraged by the strategy’s emphasis on SME adoption, domestic computing capacity, access to growth capital, and the deployment of AI across strategic sectors such as health care, energy, manufacturing, and agriculture.

As OCC President & CEO Daniel Tisch put it: “Canada’s new strategy reflects what businesses have been calling for: a comprehensive commitment to AI adoption, infrastructure, and commercialization – and a recognition that data sovereignty is essential to national competitiveness. But while the potential of AI is high, business and government leaders must recognize that trust in its implementation is low. Canada can’t succeed in AI unless Canadians are equipped to succeed by using it.”

Canada’s AI ecosystem is world-class, but translating that research leadership into broad-based economic growth will require ensuring that businesses of all sizes can adopt AI confidently and effectively.

As implementation begins, the OCC will be looking for measurable progress in three key areas: workforce development, responsible governance, and commercialization outcomes. We look forward to working with our members and all levels of government to translate this strategy into tangible, lasting benefits for Canadian businesses, workers, and communities.

(TORONTO — June 4, 2026) — The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) welcomes the federal government’s new artificial intelligence strategy, AI for All, as an important step toward strengthening Canada’s productivity, competitiveness, and inclusive, long-term economic growth.

Advocacy doesn’t start at the top.

It starts with local businesses telling their chambers of commerce and boards of trade what is getting in the way and what needs to be done to fix it.

It is how we turn experience into impact.

It is how we bring the realities facing businesses, workers, and communities directly to the people shaping policy to build solutions.

And, it works.

When we show up prepared, united, and determined, and deliver recommendations that are focused, practical, and outcome-oriented, we can make our voice heard and we can create meaningful change.

This week, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce welcomed more than 150 chamber and business leaders to our 2026 Advocacy Day to engage with representatives from across our province’s political spectrum.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Queen’s Park for this important occasion. We look forward to continuing to work closely with business and government to bring inclusive and sustainable prosperity to Ontario’s businesses, workers, and communities.

For many businesses, the costs associated with U.S. tariffs have felt sudden, confusing, and difficult to navigate.

Our latest blog post from Peacock Tariff Consulting breaks down what Section 122 of the U.S. Trade Act means, why it replaced previous IEEPA tariff measures, and why businesses should pay close attention to potential refund opportunities.

The key takeaway: trade policy is shifting quickly, and businesses that act early may be better positioned to recover costs and reduce uncertainty.
