The Foreign Affairs Council of Glendon (FACG) is a bilingual international affairs student organization that aims to provide York University students with the utmost opportunities in preparing for future careers in government, non-governmental and international organizations. Established in 2013 as the successor to the Glendon NATO group, the FACG administers several projects which consist of dipl
omatic simulations and conferences that students can participate in, depending on their specializations and personal interests. In recent years, FACG delegates have attended the London Security Exercise, Model Courts of Justice, Carleton Model NATO, International Model NATO, Model Arab League, and the Model WTO. The primary goals of the FACG are to facilitate the training and mentoring of students and to provide them with opportunities to gain extracurricular experience in the international affairs sector through experiential education programs. The Council also puts an emphasis on acting as a liaison between professors who specialize in areas of international affairs that individual students or delegations are studying in preparation for their participation at simulations and conferences. The training, mentoring and leadership of FACG delegates is provided by senior-level students who have a strong background at simulations and an excellent academic record in international affairs scholarship. Since its inception, the FACG has sent delegations to more than half a dozen simulations and conferences on three different continents, with a combined operating budget of over $50,000. Our delegates have won dozens of awards for excellence and have competed with leading post-secondary institutions from around the world. Through the hard work of our executive team and our delegates, the FACG has been successful in fulfilling its mandate in an unprecedented manner, operating on a voluntary basis and without any sources of external funding whatsoever. As a result, we attribute our success to the dedication and professionalism of our members and to the executives that have put in countless hours of their own time to create what we believe to be the premiere international affairs student organization in Canada.
