The Labour Education Centre is pleased to join David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development alongside women in the trades at today’s announcement on the Skills Development Fund investments. LEC is the recipient of the Ontario’s Skills Development Fund to help 50 women remain employed and advance in the skilled trades.

Working alongside labour, employers and community partners, we will continue to provide employment opportunities, wraparound supports and inclusive workplace training through our Women in Construction and other programs. Our team is helping women overcome barriers and build lasting careers.

Canada is built by workers. Today, we celebrate the people whose skill, care, labour, and determination keep our communities moving.

Everyone deserves access to decent work, real opportunity, and the training and supports needed to thrive in a changing economy. This Canada Day, we honour workers’ contributions and recommit to building pathways to good jobs for all.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to honour and celebrate the rich cultures and meaningful contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We honour those who carry the joy of their cultures and traditions forward, inspiring others in their communities and beyond.

Here at LEC, across Ontario, and throughout Canada, we celebrate Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, students, educators, workers, artists, leaders, innovators, community advocates, and all those who bring pride to communities across the country.

Together, let's take today to recognize, reflect, and renew our commitment to uplift Indigenous Peoples everywhere.
