We screen technical candidates without coding tests.

🚫 No take-home projects
🚫 No timed algorithm challenges
🚫 No third-party personality assessments.

What we run is a conversation with structure. Contextual, role-specific questions. Candidates walk through work they have done and explain it in simple terms. Then they teach it back.

Why? Because someone who has done the work can teach it.

But if your team requires its own assessment, we can still administer it, and it stays separate from our screening.

"Clients ask me what the market pays and expect one number. The useful answer is what candidates at that level accepted recently, which is a different thing and not something you can look up."

πŸ‘† Sara, our Recruitment Manager, on the question every salary conversation opens with.

There are often discrepancies on published salary benchmarks, sometimes by tens of thousands of dollars for the same role in the same city.

Candidates, we've all been here...

You send a resume to a recruiter and it disappears. No reply, no status, and three weeks later the same job is reposted. Like, what?!!?

Here is what happens at our desk, every submission:
πŸ‘‰ 01. A recruiter reads it. A human, personally.
πŸ‘‰ 02. It never goes to an employer without your consent.
πŸ‘‰ 03. We never run token postings. Fake ads posted to harvest resumes are a real industry practice. Every posting on our board is a live search.
πŸ‘‰ 04. Your search stays confidential, including from your current employer, and you always know who has seen your resume.

That is the whole process, and it costs you nothing at any stage. Just saying.

Six sources published six salaries for a cyber security analyst in Toronto, all collected the same month.

The difference in reported salary was a whopping $63,598 apart.

None of the data is really wrong, per se. So what gives?

They just measure different things:
πŸ‘‰ Employer surveys capture full packages with bonus, and the companies that answer surveys skew large and well-paying.
πŸ‘‰ Scraped job ads capture what employers advertise, optimistic at the ceiling.
πŸ‘‰ Self-reported figures depend on who submits, and base-only numbers sit far below total-comp numbers for identical work.

Since January, Ontario employers have to publish a range in public, capped at a $50,000 span. So, which source hiring teams benchmark against makes their range defensible.

Here's the full breakdown, plus a four-step method for setting a range you can defend - https://hubs.li/Q04tcW000

Contract or permanent is the first fork in every tech hire, and most teams decide it by budget alone.

The differences that really matter?
πŸ‘‰ Contract billing is an hourly rate with our margin included, and we carry the employment risk, swapping or backfilling mid-contract if needed.
πŸ‘‰ A permanent hire is yours from day one, backed by our 90-day guarantee.

P.S. a contractor is never a dead end because converting someone to full-time comes with a prorated buyout that shrinks the longer they have worked.

Projects, surges, and coverage point one way. Building your core team points the other.

We scope this in the first intake call and tell you which one the role needs.

An unfilled role for six weeks unfilled is where our calculator defaults.

Why? Because most teams never see how an open role impacts their bottom line.

An open Software & Engineering seat runs about $623 a day in lost output and overloaded teammates. Over six weeks that is $18,692 in losses, for one role. Just saying.

Deepfake candidates are showing up in remote interviews.

Real-time face swaps and AI assistants feeding answers have made the standard video call weak evidence of who you're actually talking to.

We run a 60-second identity check before every remote interview. Four camera prompts:
πŸ‘‰ 01 Profile turn. Distortion around ears and jawline gives overlays away.
πŸ‘‰ 02 Hand pass. Face swaps break where a hand crosses the face.
πŸ‘‰ 03 Depth check. Backgrounds warp when a synthetic face moves closer.
πŸ‘‰ 04 Sync audit. Count to five on fingers, out loud. Timing mismatches surface fast.

No single test proves a candidate is real. Together they make faking one expensive.

Listen up Ontario employers!

Not responding after an interview is now a legal issue.

Bill 190 requires a final decision to every interviewed candidate within 45 days. Hiring records, including those decision notices, stay audit-ready for three years.

The fix is administrative. A dated decision email to every interviewed candidate, kept on file.

Our free Bill 190 compliance checklist covers all five steps πŸ‘‰ https://hubs.ly/Q04qpm9-0
