you’re not “just a nanny”… but no one showed you what’s next

Something that doesn’t sit right with me is how often nannying gets reduced to “just helping out” when in reality you’re doing so much more than that every single day.
You’re managing routines, supporting emotional regulation, teaching kids how to move through the world, handling situations that require patience and awareness most people don’t even think about.
And yet somehow it still gets framed like it’s not something you can build on.
So a lot of nannies end up feeling stuck, not because they lack skills, but because no one has ever shown them what the next step could actually look like.
The shift for me was realizing that the skills I already had were valuable, I just needed to refine them, specialize a bit, and learn how to communicate that value properly.
That’s how I ended up building a six-figure career in this space.
And it’s exactly what I now teach inside my Nanny Academy, because there is a path here, it’s just not talked about enough.

I don’t know a single nanny who hasn’t been asked at some point what their “backup plan” is.
Sometimes it’s said casually, sometimes it’s said with concern, but either way it kind of sticks with you. Like you’re doing something that’s fine for now, but not something you’re supposed to build your life around.
And if you hear that enough times, you start to believe it a little bit.
What I didn’t realize at the time is that nannying only feels temporary when you’re not shown what growth actually looks like in this industry. If all you see are similar roles, similar pay, similar expectations, of course it feels limited.
But there is another level to this: I’ve built a six-figure career as a nanny, and it didn’t come from luck, it came from understanding how to position myself, how to choose the right families, and how to develop skills that are actually valued at a higher level.
That’s what I teach inside my Nanny Academy, because this work can absolutely be long-term if you approach it differently.

you learned something as a nanny… that someone else needs
There’s always that one moment or situation that sticks with you as a nanny.
Something you figured out on your own, or something that didn’t go as planned but ended up teaching you a lot. The kind of thing you wish someone had told you earlier.
And the more I talk to nannies, the more I realize how many of those little lessons just stay in people’s heads instead of being shared.
Which is such a missed opportunity, because those are the things that actually help others.
So I’m starting a series of interviews where nannies can come on and share their experiences in a really simple, low-pressure way.
Nothing complicated, you’ll get the questions beforehand so you have time to think, and you can choose whether you want to do audio only or include video as well.
It’s really just about creating space for those insights to be heard.
