I’m sharing on behalf of the Manitoba Environmental Industries Association as they are hosting a course in Thompson on October 9, 2026. The course is part of the Codes Acceleration Project (CAP) which is an initiative to train and prepare Manitoba building professionals for the next energy code tier requirements. This course is free to attendees and will last the whole day (8 hours).

Preparing northern Manitobans for meaningful careers close to home.

UCN is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the 9th cohort of the Mining Readiness Program, delivered in partnership with Hudbay and the Northern Manitoba Sector Council.

Nine students from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Moose Lake, and the Coromont area have completed the program and have been offered full-time employment opportunities with Hudbay in Snow Lake.

Through hands-on training, industry partnerships, and pathways to employment, programs like Mining Readiness help create opportunities for Northerners to build careers and continue contributing to their own communities.

🎉🎉 Congratulations to the Graduates of Cohort 4! 🎓

The Northern Manitoba Sector Council (NMSC) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Cohort 4 of the Mine Readiness program in Flin Flon and Snow Lake, Manitoba.

Over the course of an intensive 9-week program, participants developed the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to begin successful careers in the mining industry. Through a combination of classroom instruction and a hands-on underground practicum, these graduates demonstrated exceptional dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their future.

🌟 The result? Every graduate received a job offer on graduation day!

This remarkable achievement reflects not only the hard work of the participants but also the strength of the partnerships that make this program possible.

Join us in celebrating the newest graduates of the Hudbay Mining Fundamentals Program! We are incredibly proud of the Cohort 3 graduates who recently completed their training in Snow Lake, Manitoba. Hudbay’s General Manager of Lalor Mine, Rick Filion, and John O’Shaughnessy, Vice President of Hudbay’s Manitoba Business Unit were on hand to meet and speak with each of the graduates.

Through their dedication and focus on their learning journey, all graduates have been offered and have officially accepted full-time positions at our Lalor Mine! Welcome to the Hudbay Team: Alphonse, Nicole, Brett, Trey, Jayden, Colten, Jeremy, Josh, Bobby, and Gregory!

Delivered in partnership with the Northern Manitoba Sector Council, this comprehensive 9-week program sets participants up for success through: three weeks of intensive classroom studies; six weeks of hands-on, practical mining training with us, which includes job shadowing for surface/underground operations.

At Hudbay, safety is our number one priority and is built into every single aspect of this curriculum. We remain committed to workforce development in northern Manitoba.
