Residential legal service charges for a purchase are usually made up of (i) legal fees, (ii) disbursements, (iii) HST/PST/GST, (iv) title insurance, and (v) land transfer tax. Make sure you consider all five cost areas when choosing your legal professional and comparing legal services and rates. Be wary of "all-in" fees which often exclude disbursements and taxes.
Legal service charges for a sale include (i) legal fees, (ii) disbursements, and (iii) HST/PST/GST charges. Not all lawyers quote all three cost areas - many are just the "legal fees", so remember to consider disbursements and taxes when comparing.
