Canada’s latest Express Entry reforms will place greater emphasis on candidates who have demonstrated strong economic potential through high-wage employment in Canada. Effective November 3, 2026, eligible applicants may receive additional CRS points for qualifying Canadian work experience or high-wage job offers, helping strengthen their profiles and increase their competitiveness in future Express Entry draws. The changes are designed to better align immigration selection with Canada’s labour market needs and attract highly skilled professionals to key sectors.

Another significant update is the removal of the LMIA requirement for qualifying job offers under Express Entry. By reducing administrative barriers for employers and foreign workers, the government aims to simplify the pathway to permanent residence while maintaining program integrity through continued verification of job offers. Overall, these changes create new opportunities for skilled workers with strong earning potential and provide employers with a more efficient route to recruit and retain international talent.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to issue Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through its Expression of Interest (EOI) system for the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). Since the launch of the EOI model in February 2025, candidates must first submit an expression of interest and wait to be selected before they can submit a full immigration application. The province conducts invitation rounds throughout the year based on labour market priorities and immigration needs.

The latest invitation round, held on October 9, 2026, issued 131 invitations, including 130 through the NLPNP and 1 through the AIP. The ongoing invitations demonstrate Newfoundland and Labrador's continued commitment to attracting skilled workers, supporting employers facing workforce shortages, and strengthening economic growth across the province through immigration.
