WHERE DID RUBY POP UP THIS WEEK? 🍓🕵️‍♀️

Ahoy, mates! ⚓

My latest adventure took me aboard a ship at the Port Colborne Historical & Marine Museum. While exploring, I learned that keeping a ship afloat takes teamwork. From the captain to the crew, everyone plays an important role in helping it reach its destination.

The same is true at the Reach Out Centre.

Did you know that more than 45 volunteers donate their time to help keep the Reach Out Centre running?

From sorting donations and stocking shelves to preparing meals and offering a friendly smile while helping clients navigate the food bank, volunteers are at the heart of so much of what happens here.

As we chart a course toward our goal of collecting 40,000lbs of food to celebrate 40 years of service, we're reminded that it takes an entire community pulling in the same direction to make it possible. ❤️

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, food drive organizer, and supporter helping us keep the shelves stocked and food moving to the neighbours who need it most.

Here’s how you can join the crew:

A huge thank you to an anonymous donor for their incredible gift of 2,782 lbs of food! 💙

This generous donation included fresh produce, frozen food, and non-perishable items that will help keep our shelves stocked and support our friends and neighbours in Port Colborne and Wainfleet.

Not only will this food make an immediate impact, it also brings us one step closer to our goal of collecting 40,000 lbs of food to celebrate 40 years of service 🍓

There was plenty of excitement at the Reach Out Centre this week as staff and volunteers unloaded the truck. Thank you for helping us care for our community! 🍎🥕🥫

WHERE DID RUBY POP UP THIS WEEK? 🍓🕵️‍♀️

Ruby here again! I’ve been having so much fun exploring my new home and discovering all the places, people, and traditions that make this community so special. ❤️

This week, I stopped by one of Port Colborne’s most iconic spots — the Dairy Queen! 🍦

While visiting, I learned that food has a funny way of bringing people together. Ice cream with family on a summer night, coffee with a friend, backyard BBQs, or sharing a meal around the table.

But as summer gets closer, many families in our community are feeling the pressure of higher grocery costs and stretched budgets.

That’s why Port Cares is working to collect 40,000lbs of food to celebrate 40 years of caring for our community.
Every donation helps make sure our neighbours have food and support when they need it most.

And with the end of the campaign getting closer too, we need your help now more than ever to help stock shelves and prepare for the busy summer months ahead. 🍓

Here’s how you can help:
🥫 Drop food donations off at the Reach Out Centre (61 Nickel St)
💚 Donate online at portcares.ca

I wonder where I’ll end up next week… 👀

We’re looking for volunteers to support our new Garden Program! 🌱

Volunteers will help care for the greenhouse and raised garden beds at our 61 Nickel Street location, as well as our nearby community garden. Tasks may include planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, and general garden maintenance

It’s a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, learn new skills, and help grow fresh produce for our community 💚

If you’re interested in volunteering and supporting the work we do at Port Cares, we’d love to hear from you! Training and guidance will be provided

HALFWAY THERE AND JUST GETTING STARTED! 🎉

19,000lbs of food! That’s what this community has made possible. That’s families who won’t have to choose between groceries and rent. That’s kids with lunch kits. That’s seniors with food on their tables. But we still have 21,000 lbs to go, and the need in our community isn’t slowing down. Neither are we. 40,000lbs. 40 years

Let’s make it count. Drop off at 61 Nickel Street or donate at portcares.ca 💚🍓
