The province is investing $2 million to launch Make More in B.C., a new initiative aimed at creating regional economic hubs that will protect existing forestry workers, generate new jobs, and extract more value from every tree.

“The Make More in B.C. project is about building a stronger, more resilient forest sector that is never again dependent on a single trading partner like the United States. We cannot allow forestry workers and communities to remain vulnerable to duties, tariffs, and global uncertainty. We need to make more in B.C., create more jobs in B.C., and build a future that keeps more value here at home.”

“As a new immigrant to Canada, WorkBC has been an invaluable resource during my transition. The training programs were practical and tailored to the unique needs of newcomers, giving me a clear understanding of the Canadian job market and workplace culture. The support I received helped me build confidence and navigate a slow hiring market.”
— Charlez

Charlez’s story is a powerful example of how determination, combined with the right support, can help newcomers overcome barriers and build meaningful careers in Canada.

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Success Story 💡 Rob is blind and has been looking for work as a writer. Searching through online job notices was challenging because his computer was failing, and he didn’t have the right software to allow him to navigate using his screen reader.

At WorkBC’s Assistive Technology Services, disability practitioners helped Rob find the tools he needed to succeed. With a new computer, screen reader software, headset - and training on his new tools - Rob’s all set. “The help I received in the training was essential, vital” he said. “I wish I had known about it earlier.”

With his new equipment and training, Rob is actively searching for work online and submitting writing to publishers. “It’s opened up totally new opportunities in writing for me,” Rob said.

“I am very happy with the service - extraordinarily grateful for the support I received and the training.”
