Last week, Makivvik’s Board of Directors came together in Montreal for its fall board meeting. A key milestone was the passing of our budget, ensuring Makivvik can continue its work in the service of Nunavik Inuit and advance priorities that matter to our people and our communities. We were also pleased to welcome Jean Charest, former Premier of Quebec, for a timely discussion on mining in Nunavik. We spoke about the opportunities mining can bring, the concerns raised by communities, and the importance of ensuring Inuit have control over our land and resources. With our moratorium on mining, we are not seeking to encourage mining development in our region, we must nevertheless understand the full range of its potential impacts.
