The incentives embedded in the training program keep teachers engaged and motivated – positively impacting the future of millions of children around the world. The most significant cause of underachievement among students is the lack of ability of teachers to teach. Without qualified and motivated teachers, children stand very little chance of realizing their potential.

1 Million Teachers aims to fill the competence gap, by attracting, training and keeping teachers engaged and motivated in order enhance students’ outcomes.

We are delighted to announce 1 Million Teachers’ partnership with the University of Sheffield’s Maker{Futures} team on the Maker{School} Africa movement.

Maker{School} is about giving children permission to tinker, explore, build, question, collaborate, and solve real problems — not as an extra activity, but as a deeper way of learning.

Beginning in Nigeria, with Inspire Academy Abuja as a lead school hub, this partnership will support teachers to bring maker-centred learning into classrooms, helping children grow as curious, creative, resilient, collaborative, and confident problem-solvers.

For 1 Million Teachers, this is deeply aligned with our mission: to equip teachers, transform classrooms, and build learning systems that prepare children not only for exams, but for life.

This is only the beginning. From Nigeria, we look forward to helping grow a truly African Maker{School} movement.
