Recently, our team had the opportunity to learn about Motivational Interviewing, an evidence-based approach that reminds us that meaningful change isn’t created through advice or persuasion.
It comes from helping people explore what matters most to them, recognize when their current path no longer aligns with the life they want to build, and strengthen their own motivation to move forward.
At SMART Options, this reflects how we approach supported employment. Rather than trying to fit people into available jobs, we help people discover work that is meaningful to them, because lasting commitment starts with their motivation — not ours.
A huge thanks to Jim Laidlaw for generously volunteering his time to share his expertise with our team. We are grateful to the Day One Society for creating opportunities for learning, collaboration, and stronger community partnerships.
