Today, on Mi’gmaq Treaty Day, we honour the Peace and Friendship Treaties and the relationships they established between the Mi’gmaq and settlers. These treaties were not about surrendering our land, but about living alongside one another while respecting Mi’gmaq rights, responsibilities and our relationship with the land.

For MMBC, these principles continue to guide the work we do today. As a Mi’gmaq-owned organization representing Listuguj, Gesgapegiag and Gespeg, we work to ensure our communities have a meaningful role in the economic development taking place in Gespe’gewa’gi.

Through renewable energy, partnerships and new business opportunities, our focus is on creating long-term benefits for our communities while respecting the land and future generations.
October 1 also marks the beginning of Mi’gmaq History Month, a time to celebrate our history, language, culture and the continued contributions of Mi’gmaq people.

Today, we encourage our partners to learn more about the Peace and Friendship Treaties and reflect on what it means to honour them today.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the children who never made it home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories.

As a Mi’gmaq-owned organization representing Listuguj, Gesgapegiag and Gespeg, MMBC is committed to creating opportunities for our communities and building partnerships rooted in respect, with Mi’gmaq voices at the table.

Reconciliation goes beyond one day. We encourage our partners and those we work alongside to listen, learn and reflect on the role we all have in moving reconciliation forward.

Every Child Matters. 🧡
