You appreciate traditional European recipes and flavours!
You believe in going that extra step to guarantee customers a quality dessert experience!

Position: Pastry Chef
Location: Bedford, NS

Manuela’s Cakery, an established “cakery”, is located in Bedford, Nova Scotia, and has been delivering traditional European desserts and sweets to its fans since 2020. Manuela’s continues to grow and is currently recruiting a Pastry Chef.

Manuela’s is convinced that being a Pastry Chef is not about years of experience, it is about passion for what you do! The Pastry Chef is primarily responsible for back-of-the house operations, including pastry chefing and baking, product packaging and storage, area and equipment cleaning and sanitation, restocking, and recipe exploration. Manuela’s Cakery is a small operation, where teamwork matters, and this position will also help with counter sales, actively educating customers and promoting product, packing product, and helping to keep the classy little front-of-the-house seating section tidy and clean. Finally, as a valued member of the team, this position will assist Manuela with hiring decisions, training new staff, and evaluating staff.

Passion for pastry and sweets is a must!
You are creative and innovative!
You are a natural multi-tasker!

A strong candidate will have a Culinary Arts Diploma, specialty in pastry. A professional certification (e.g. Certified Pastry Culinarian) would be an asset but is not required. The Nova Scotia Food Handler Certificate is a must. A solid candidate will have some experience with pastry chefing and baking, working with diverse populations, working in the food retail or food service industries, and workplace safety training. Knowledge of Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) would be awesome but, again, is not required.

Manuela envisions the Pastry Chef working Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm; but is open to discussing days of the schedule as long as the schedule includes one of the weekend days. The wage range is $16.70 to $25 an hour, but starting wage really depends upon the candidate’s experience. Manuela’s provides paid vacation in the year of hire, paid statutory holidays off, and a modest but meaningful monthly benefits package stipend.

Interested candidates should send their resume and cover letter to Manuela Cickai no later than Monday, August 26 to [email protected].
