Get to Know Josephine - one of our recruitment consultants at Accountant Staffing 👋

Josephine grew up in the U.K., studied music technology at the University of Hertfordshire, and started her career in London working in sponsorship and partnerships with some of the country's largest television broadcasters.

She then relocated solo to Vancouver, worked as a travel consultant building itineraries for clients until Covid shut that industry down, and found her way into recruitment through light industrial staffing, then skilled trades, and eventually administrative and accounting searches after moving to Halifax.

She now connects candidates to local companies and hiring managers across Atlantic Canada, with a focus on administrative and accounting roles. She is also currently working toward her CPHR designation.

Outside of work, she has visited 32 countries, cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours for charity, and has been cheering for England in international football since the 1994 World Cup. She holds dual citizenship in Canada and Great Britain. These days she spends her time with her husband, her two kids Logan and Sofia, a pair of recently rescued kittens, and whatever sewing or embroidery project is on the go. She picked up hand embroidery during her last maternity leave and has been making clothes for herself and her kids since.

Our client in St. John's has an opening for an Accountant/Property Manager, a permanent role that covers a lot of ground across both full-cycle accounting and the day-to-day operations of multiple commercial properties.

On the accounting side, you'll be handling AP/AR, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll, HST/GST remittances, and month-end close across multiple entities. The property management side adds tenant relations, rent collection, maintenance coordination, and vendor management into the mix.

The ideal candidate brings 5 to 7 years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities without losing the detail. Experience in Sage and multi-entity accounting are both assets here.

Meet Rohan, one of our recruitment consultants at Accountant Staffing. 👋

Rohan has over six years of recruitment experience, with a background that spans technical, IT, finance, engineering, and executive leadership roles. He built his career working in markets like Toronto and Windsor, recruiting for positions ranging from entry-level all the way up to the C-suite, with clients across Canada, the United States, and globally. He eventually made his way to Halifax and has been here since, working with candidates and organizations across Atlantic Canada.

His approach to recruitment is consultative and straightforward. He focuses on sourcing strategy, candidate engagement, and making sure both sides of the process walk away with something that actually works long-term.

Outside of work, he keeps himself busy in ways that cover a lot of ground. He speaks three languages, competed in national Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in India, and did intercity motorcycle trips across the country before trading two wheels for hiking trails, kayaks, and camping gear.

He also played field hockey at a competitive level, which gives him something to talk about with a very specific subset of candidates.

You'll be processing end-to-end payroll for approximately 200 to 210 employees across multiple locations, verifying data entered by HR, managing adjustments and corrections, and keeping everything compliant and on schedule. The environment is fast-paced, the expectations are clear, and the team needs someone who can own the function from day one.

The position is hybrid with a flexible schedule, including 9.5-hour workdays and every second Friday off.

Meet Lori, our Senior Recruitment Consultant based in St. John's, NL, and the driving force behind our Newfoundland operations.

With more than 11 years of experience in accounting and management, Lori truly knows the ins and outs of the industry. She’s worked in public practice, taught accounting at the college level, and spent time at the CPA Atlantic School of Business before diving into recruitment. When she says she gets what you do for a living, she really means it.

Lori also volunteers as a TV host on Rogers TV for Out of the Fog, the longest-running community television series in Newfoundland, now gearing up for its 25th season (and her 4th!).

She’s hosted red carpets for the ECMAs, Music NL, and St. John's Fashion Week. She even played Lady Diana on Mark Critch's Son of a Critch. And yes, she has danced on a red carpet with Goldie Boutilier!

When the cameras are off, she plays guitar, drums, mandolin, and ukulele, volunteers with the Make-A-Wish Foundation NL and Happy City St. John's, and is a proud cat mom to Edie Swift and a fish dad to Percy Blue.

Her office is a vibrant pink, her go-to bribe is a strong black coffee, and her loyalty to the Montreal Canadiens is unwavering.

Originally hailing from Seal Cove Fortune Bay on the Connaigre Peninsula, Lori brings a small-town work ethic and a big personality to everything she does. Candidates and clients in NL are truly fortunate to have her in their corner.
