🚨 We’re Hiring – Senior Substation Commissioning Technologist🚨

Debbie Mastel & Associates is supporting our client in the search for experienced Senior Commissioning Technologists with strong Protection & Control (P&C) experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who enjoy hands-on field work, problem-solving, and traveling to project sites across Canada.

What You’ll Be Doing:
You’ll take the lead on inspecting, testing, and commissioning high-voltage substation equipment – including transformers, breakers, switchgear, relays, and SCADA systems. This role requires someone confident in coordinating with project teams, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring all commissioning activities meet high technical and safety standards.

Key Details:
✨ Schedule: Monday to Friday, typically 7:00 am – 5:30 pm (hours may vary by project)
✨ Overtime: Paid after 40 hours
✨ Travel: 50–75% (including overnights, depending on the project)
✨ Location: Must be based in Canada
✨ Accommodations: Hotels provided when working out of town
✨ Experience Needed: Strong background in substation commissioning plus solid Protection & Control (P&C) expertise

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Senior Advisor, Human Resources will be responsible for providing a broad range of Human Resources (HR) services including leading and assisting with general HR activities to support the ongoing needs of the business.

*Must relocate to Sparwood area*

Duties:
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Influence and contribute towards employee communication strategies and employee development programs
Provide coaching and resources to employees and managers with respect to career development, compensation, recruiting, performance management and employee relations, and adherence to the collective agreement
Provide mentoring and coaching to the HR Advisors
Lead benefits communication, ongoing employee communications, exit materials, and annual enrolment communications
Investigate employee relations issues including employee matters and performance issues while maintaining confidentiality, consistency, and sensitivity
Coordinate and participate in the disability management process
Provide support for the People Central Performance and Development programs and the Human Resources Information System
Work with the sites to assist in developing programs to further develop our leaders and workforce
Generate regular and ad hoc reports on specific HR metrics
Facilitate and lead workshops and discussions to identify priority objectives

Requirements:
Degree in Human Resources, Business or Organizational Development or equivalent
Minimum five years of Human Resources or Leadership experience with a focus on employee development
Experience working in both a unionized and non-unionized environment
Proven ability to meet deadlines and follow up on key deliverables
Experience in change management and workflow planning for self, others and groups
Ability to professionally handle confidential material

Our client is looking for a Prep Equipment Operator – Plasma/Press Brake to join their team. They will be responsible for the setup and operation of forming and plasma cutting equipment in order to make routine bends, alignments, cuts and forms of materials such as metal sheets, plates, and structural shapes.

Key Responsibilities

Gather materials to fill work orders, set up machines with materials
Read and interpret specifications, drawings, and layouts for product specifications such as tooling instructions, tolerances, and dimensions. Translate instructions into actions
Set up, calibrate, operate and program forming equipment and fabricate both standard and complex parts
Responsible for assuring productivity and quality standards are consistently met
Verify conformance of parts to stock list and drawings using measuring instruments such as callipers, gauges, and micrometres
Conduct work safely in accordance with Company policies and procedures
Ensure any issues or recommendations concerning safety, productivity and quality are raised to your supervisor
Perform regular housekeeping and maintain a safe and clean work area
Participate in Safety and Quality Programs including Audits and Meetings
Participate and promote Continuous Improvement Activities

Skills & Qualifications:

1+ years’ experience operating a press brake or plasma table
Have an understanding of sheet metal and formed parts
Ability to pay attention to details of a project or task
Basic computer navigation and utilization skills required
Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances
Demonstrated ability to read and understand drawings
Demonstrated ability to read and understand English (verbal and written) instructions
Positive attitude towards new challenges
Lift approximately 50 lbs
