πŸͺš Trade Spotlight: Carpenter πŸͺš

Ever look at a new building, a concrete foundation, or a finished space and wonder who turns the plans into something real? That is the work of a carpenter.

Carpenters do far more than frame houses. They build, install, repair, and renovate structures in residential, commercial, civil, and industrial settings. From formwork and framing to finishing work and renovations, they are part of the crew that gets a project off the ground and sees it through.

πŸ”¨ What carpenters really do:
- Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials
- Build foundations, floors, walls, roof systems, and temporary concrete forms
- Install doors, stairs, trim, moulding, and hardware
- Repair and renovate structures in homes, commercial buildings, plants, and industrial sites

πŸŽ“ How to get into the trade:
- Meet the apprenticeship requirements in your province or territory
- Find an employer and register as an apprentice
- Earn while you learn through paid on-the-job training and technical training
- Complete your provincial or territorial certification requirements
- Write the Red Seal exam if you want nationally recognised credentials

Carpenter is a Red Seal trade across Canada; exact apprenticeship and certification requirements vary by province and territory.

πŸ’° Wages in Canada:
- Low: $22.00/hr
- Median: $32.12/hr
- High: $44.23/hr

Rates vary by province, experience, speciality, union agreement, and project type. Industrial work, overtime, remote projects, and specialised work such as formwork can increase earning potential.

🧠 This trade is for you if:
- You like building things you can see and take pride in
- You are detail-oriented and comfortable working with plans and measurements
- You enjoy practical problem-solving and working with your hands
- You want a career with opportunities in construction, industrial work, civil projects, and renovations

Matrix HR connects skilled Carpenters with commercial, civil, and industrial opportunities across Canada.

The best person on a job site is not always the one with the most tickets.
Technical expertise gets you through the gate. But communication, accountability, and reliability are often what determine whether you are invited back.

We've broken down why these skills have become essential on high-pressure job sites, and the small habits that help workers stand out from one project to the next.
