ECVC - European Coordination Via Campesina

ECVC - European Coordination Via Campesina We are the collective voice of peasant farmers in Europe.

The European Coordination Via Campesina regroups the organisations formerly gathered in the European Farmers Coordination (CPE 1986-2008) and other farmers’ and agricultural workers’ organisations of Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, and Turkey. Our principal objective is the struggle for other food and agricultural policies based on more legitimacy, fairness, solidarity

and sustainability, wich are necessary in Europe to ensure food security, food safety, public health, employment in rural areas and to tackle the issues of the global food crisis and climate change. In Europe, each day, over thousand farms disappear because of a lack of real political will to keep sustainable family farming . We ask for the development of diverse and sustainable family farming linked, and the application of food sovereignty as framework of a new Common Agriculture and Food Policy. You will find a "common base" which presents the values and priorities of the European Coordination Via Campesina.

What kind of funding, CAP and CMO do we need after 2027?

As the Council and Parliament discuss proposals for the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the EU budget, and the Common Market Organisation (CMO), ECVC is advocating for policies that put food sovereignty, fair farm incomes, agroecology, and rural communities at the centre.

Join us on 15 June for a webinar presenting our recommendations and discussing how agricultural policy can respond to the multiple crises affecting food systems today.

1 May marks a dark day for European farmers, as the European Commission initiates the provisional application of the EU-Mercosur treaty.

This is a scandal for democracy: no vote has taken place in the European Parliament, neither on the treaty itself nor on its provisional application.

ECVC calls for the treaty to be suspended until the CJEU has examined its legality and until the European Parliament has voted.

We call Member States and civil society to remain vigilant to prevent new massive imports of products from Mercosur’s intensive agriculture.

We must defend small and medium-scale farmers of the EU and Mercosur who guarantee healthy and sustainable food for the population!

We can still block this treaty, either through a ruling by the CJEU or through the upcoming vote in the European Parliament.

Farmers will continue to mobilize against this free trade agreement, as well as against the FTAs such as Mexico, Australia, India, and the US that are being concluded in parallel with utter disregard for EU farmers.

International day if peasants rights in Brussels
Globalise the struggle,
Globalise the hope !

17/04/2026

👨‍🌾Today in Brussels, ECVC members joined peasant movements from Brazil, Belgium, and France to mark the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Peasant Struggles.

📢The message is clear: we need to transform our food systems, not reinforce a broken model.

This includes building food systems and trade frameworks based on solidarity, not competition.

ECVC farmers took to the streets to raise their voices against the EU-Mercosur agreement, which serves to:

❌Undermine farmers
❌Deepen inequalities
❌Strengthen agribusiness's power

On we reject harmful trade agreements and reaffirm the need to advance food sovereignty and agrarian reform!

This 2026, we commemorate 30 years since the Eldorado do Carajás Massacre, when 21 landless workers were killed by the Military Police in Brazil while occupying land.

Across Europe and the world, peasants are mobilising for just food systems, promoting fair prices, agroecology, food sovereignty, and challenging the export-oriented, globalised and industrialised food system that leave farmers, citizens and food systems increasingly vulnerable.

In particular, European farmers today denounce the push towards competitiveness and free trade of food and agricultural produce, including the EU-Mercosur FTA agreement. This deal is set to be provisionally applied in the coming months, despite ongoing assessment in the European Court of Justice as to the legitimacy of this deal.

Today farmers around Europe mobilise to remind the world that food is not a commodity to make profit, but a human right. Our role is to feed people, not line the pockets of big agribusiness.
