The Syndicate of the Belgian Diamond Industry ('Het Syndikaat der Belgische Diamantnijverheid') aims mainly at promoting the Belgian diamond industry in all its aspects and the international diamond industry in general, the prevention and fighting of abuses, the protection and representation of the common professional interests of its members on social, legal, fiscal, economic and technologic fiel
ds. SBD is a legally recognized professional association of the Belgian and foreign diamond companies established in Belgium, and represents the brokers, the traders, the manufacturers, the sawyers and clovers of colored stones. The main tasks of the Syndicate are:
The representation in various joint consultatives, such as the National Joint Committee for the Diamond Industry and Diamond Trade, the Internal Compensationfund for the Diamondsector, the Internal Compensation fund for the Diamond sector, the Diamond Industry Trust, the State Holiday Trust for the Diamond Industry;
The representation on international level (International Diamond Manufacturers Association, IDMA), and European level (European Council of Diamond Manufacturers, E.C.D.M.);
To represents the interests at De Beers, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), VOKA/VEV, the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB) and various other government agencies;
The management for the Scientific and Technical Research center for Diamond (WTOCD);
Member services, mainly social and legal information about various regulations and CEA's;
Initiatives for training and employment.
