PILBARA CONDITIONS UPDATE:
WELCOME TO THE SURFACE OF THE SUN
I’m just outside Newman and thank f**k I’m on night shift, because whatever is happening during the day out here isn’t “weather”, it’s a workplace hazard with a BOM logo on it.
Let’s talk numbers, because the Pilbara decided subtlety was overrated:
🔥 Marble Bar – 47.7°C
Once again reminding everyone it exists purely to bully temperature records. Thermometers didn’t sign up for this.
🔥 Iron Bridge – 47.1°C
Hot enough that even the iron ore is thinking about relocating south.
🔥 Telfer – 46.8°C
Remote, brutal, and absolutely uninterested in your wellbeing.
🔥 Paraburdoo – 46.7°C
Also copped 2.8mm of rain, which achieved nothing except turning the place into a damp sauna.
🔥 Newman Airport – 46.5°C
Overnight minimum 31.2°C.
So even the night shift heat forgot to go home. Rude.
🔥 Karijini North / Christmas Creek / Fortescue Dave Forrest
All pushing 45-46°C, which is great if you enjoy scenic views while being slowly roasted.
🔥 Barimunya / Solomon / Eliwana / Coondewanna
Mid 44-45°C territory.
A few spots saw light rain, which immediately evaporated out of spite.
🔥 Meekatharra & Giles – 44.1°C
Running +5 to +7°C above average, because averages are apparently optional now.
Even the “cooler” spots like Learmonth (43°C) and Roebourne (42.5°C) are still firmly in “don’t touch anything metal” mode.
🧠 Pilbara Logic Check
• Overnight mins stuck near 30°C
• Daytime highs smashing mid to high 40s
• Sun has zero chill
• Shade is a lie
• Wind feels like someone opened an oven door
So if you’re on day shift, respect. Hydrate, slow it down, and don’t trust handrails.
If you’re on night shift like me, enjoy the luxury experience of “only” low-30s and darkness.
Pilbara summer isn’t messing around.
It never does.
