Last week I caught up with Stephen and the team at O'Briens Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Refrigeration in Wangaratta.

A while ago, Stephen made the decision to look beyond Australia's borders to solve his technician shortage. Today, the two HVAC technicians we recruited—both of whom were previously working in the Middle East—are valued members of his team.

I also had the chance to spend some time with the technicians themselves. Hearing how they've settled into regional Victoria, their appreciation for the opportunity, and the pride they have in their work is exactly why we love what we do.

One of the biggest concerns we hear from business owners is:

*"What if they don't fit in?"*

It's a fair question.

The reality is that successful international recruitment isn't just about finding someone with the right technical skills. It's about finding people with the right attitude, commitment and desire to build a long-term future in Australia.

When you get that right, everyone wins.

✔️ The business gains reliable, skilled technicians.
✔️ The existing team gets much-needed support.
✔️ The technicians build a new life and career in Australia.

These photos are a great reminder that international recruitment isn't simply about filling vacancies.

It's about building stronger businesses and changing lives.

If your business is struggling to find experienced HVAC or refrigeration technicians, we'd be happy to show you what's possible.

Making the right recruitment match is hard — and doing it internationally can be even more challenging.

Over the years, we’ve found the best approach is to reverse-engineer the process.

One of the biggest hurdles in international recruitment is visa eligibility and qualification requirements, which is why we assess this first — before a job offer is even made.

For skilled trade roles, the interview process can be lengthy, often involving multiple interviews and practical assessments. There’s little point investing all that time only to discover later that the applicant can’t support a visa application.

That’s exactly why we created our free resource:
“The Regional Employer’s Checklist to Hiring Internationally.”

Another Strong Fortnight for the You Solved Team — Delivering Real Workforce Outcomes 🇦🇺

During the first two weeks in May, the team has proudly secured 28 major migration approvals, helping Australian employers address critical skills shortages while creating life-changing opportunities for skilled workers and their families.

From 2 May 2026 to 16 May 2026, our team successfully achieved:

✅ 17 × Subclass 482 Visa Grants
✅ 7 × Subclass 482 Nomination Approvals
✅ 3 × Subclass 191 Visa Grants

Our candidates originated from countries including Zimbabwe, Phillipines, South Africa and Nepal, with placements supporting businesses across regional and rural Australia.

Every approval represents more than a visa outcome.

It means:
✔️ Regional businesses gaining access to critical skills

Operating across heavy industry, port infrastructure, transport, and engineering support services, the company delivers large-scale maintenance and operational projects throughout the Pilbara region and plays an important role in supporting Australia’s resources and logistics sectors.

With a substantial workforce and ongoing projects across regional WA, businesses like this continue to face increasing pressure when it comes to sourcing qualified tradespeople locally — particularly experienced diesel mechanics and heavy vehicle technicians.

✅ Reduce downtime and project delays
