Ahead of World Mental Health Day, we're shining a spotlight on a critical issue affecting apprenticeship success: wellbeing.

Our new Australian Apprentice Wellbeing Report 2026 builds on the findings of the National First Year Experience Survey, providing deeper insight into how wellbeing shapes engagement, retention and outcomes for apprentices across Australia.

Based on responses from more than 12,000 current and former apprentices, the research found that those experiencing sadness, anxiety or worry were significantly more likely to have considered leaving their apprenticeship.

The report also identifies practical workplace factors that can help apprentices thrive, from quality supervision and mentoring to regular check-ins and a strong sense of progress.

What does a workplace that helps apprentices succeed actually look like?

For Marhill, employing apprentices is about more than filling roles today. The electrical services business is focused on developing the skilled tradespeople and future leaders it will need tomorrow.

With strong apprentice retention and completion, and former apprentices progressing into supervisory roles, there’s plenty employers can learn from Marhill’s approach.

So, what are they doing differently?

We take a closer look in our latest employer case study.
