Client Director, Damien O’Donnell and Mining Team Leader, Sophie Gannon attended the NSW Minerals Council career dinner last week in Orange, aimed at promoting future jobs in the mining sector.
Around 90 students attended from the Central West ranging from Year 10 to Year 12.
Another member of our team, Melinda Barton, was proud to have her son James representing the University of Wollongong. His display was an interactive model of underground ventilation systems that was of unique interest to many.
Damien was impressed by the students overall, particularly Year 10’s that have already begun research into specific future careers around being Auto Electricians, Boilermakers or Engineers.
Sophie quoted: “I wish opportunities like this were around when I was at school. It’s such a valuable way for students to explore real career pathways. It’s really encouraging to see so many young people already interested in mining, and it was great to catch up with our clients off site as well”.
The event was a success, delivering insights that will support the continued growth of the mining industry.
