Too often, a business finds out its backup wasn't working on the day it needs it most. That's usually after a hardware failure, a deleted folder or a cyber incident.

A backup is only useful if it actually restores.

Here's how we look after backups for our clients:
✓ We monitor every backup and follow up any that fail.
✓ We back up Microsoft 365 separately, including email, OneDrive and SharePoint, as well as servers, shared files and business apps.
✓ We keep copies offsite, away from your office and your main systems.
✓ We test restores regularly, so we know the data comes back when you need it.

We recommend backing up at least once a day. If you're not sure when your last backup ran, or whether it would actually restore, our team can check it for you.

It's the busy lead-up to the 31 October tax deadline. Inboxes are full, clients are sending documents, and that's exactly when a scam email is most likely to slip through.

If your practice does have a data breach, staying calm and working through it in order makes a big difference:
1. Secure the affected accounts by resetting passwords and turning on multi-factor authentication.
2. Work out what was accessed, and whose information was involved.
3. Restore any lost or damaged data from a clean backup.
4. Check whether clients or the regulator need to be notified.

Our team helps practices through each of these steps, and puts protections in place so it's much less likely to happen again. Our latest article walks through what to do.

This year's Cyber Security Action Month theme is "Take a second. Stay secure." That second matters most in your inbox.

Most cyber attacks on small businesses start with an email. Before you click, check for these four signs:
1. Urgent pressure to act right now.
2. A sender name that looks right, but an email address that doesn't match.
3. A link or attachment you weren't expecting.
4. A request to change payment or login details.

If something feels off, don't click. Ask your IT team to check it first.

We run phishing simulations and staff training so your team can spot these emails before anyone clicks.

Thank you to Helen and the team at Kelso Doors for this review.

We helped Kelso Doors with a complete IT update and refurbishment, set their team up to work together more easily, and sorted out the IT issues that had been slowing them down.

"Thank you Jim and team. We are super happy with the level of service that has been provided to us!"

Kelso Doors is one of the manufacturers we support across Western Sydney, where we look after office systems, networks and staff devices so production keeps moving.

A client gets an email that looks like it's from your firm, with "updated" bank details for their settlement or invoice. The money goes out, and it's gone.

This is payment redirection fraud. It usually starts when a scammer gets into an email account and waits for the right moment to step into the conversation.

Three simple defences go a long way:
✓ Call back on a number you already have before acting on any change to bank details.
✓ Turn on multi-factor authentication for every mailbox in the firm.
✓ Make sure staff know it's always fine to pause a payment and check.

We work with practice managers to put call-back procedures in place and lock down email accounts. Our latest article explains how it works and what to put in place.

Microsoft ended standard support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, so it's now been a year.

Those computers still turn on and still work, but they no longer get the regular security updates that close new holes as they're found. Older, unpatched machines are one of the easiest ways for attackers to get into a business.

Paying for extended updates can buy some time, but it's a stopgap, not a plan.

Our team can check which of your computers can move to Windows 11, which ones are due for replacement, and plan the change so your staff aren't caught out.

Meet Jim, one of the directors here at Digitek IT.

Jim has around 18 years of experience in technology. He started out as a web developer and went on to work as a technical business analyst, product owner and chief technology officer, across start-ups, small businesses and government agencies.

Along the way he has supported lawyers, bookkeepers, NDIS providers and plenty of small businesses, so he understands what it takes to keep client information secure and a team working without interruptions.

His focus is helping businesses choose the right setup, keep it secure and get more out of the tools they already pay for.

Jim lives in Windsor and is happy to meet with businesses around the Hawkesbury, Penrith and the rest of Western Sydney.

Outside of work, you'll find him playing badminton or cricket, tinkering with home automation, or spending time with his three young kids.

October is Cyber Security Action Month, and this year's theme is "Take a second. Stay secure."

Good security usually comes down to a few simple habits. Here are three checks any business can do this week:

✓ Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your email and Microsoft 365 accounts.
✓ Install any updates waiting on your computers and phones.
✓ Check that your last backup actually finished.

If you're not sure how to check any of these, our team can take a look and tell you where you stand.
