Standard 7 would like to wish you a Happy International Nurses Day! The theme for the 2023 resource is Our Nurses. Our Future.

Today is an important reminder to reflect on the present challenges of global health that need to be addressed to improve our healthcare systems for everyone. The lessons we learned during the pandemic need to be translated into actions so we can transform the future of global health.

By encouraging people to take up the profession of nursing, they invest in healthcare and in the future itself. Together, we can transform a brighter future of nursing and how the nursing profession can assist in improving global health.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our front-line nurses. Many thanks for your excellent care and for contributing to making the world a healthier and happier place. Your strength helps us through difficult times, and we cannot thank you enough for your hard work.

To commemorate the theme, “Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime Anywhere-Always”, we would like to introduce this quote by Florence Nightingale.

Upon reflection, nursing is indeed an art. Art addresses the human connections and empathetic nature that makes nursing a critical element of healthcare because nursing practices demonstrate qualities such as compassion and kindness towards patients, understanding the patient's individual needs and building a trustworthy and empathetic relationship. Being able to connect with a vulnerable human is a form of art.

Here at Standard 7, we would like to wish a Happy Nurses Week, to all our staff members at Standard 7 and to those who call themselves a nurse.

This year, the theme for Nurses Week 2023 is… “Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime Anywhere-Always” and they truly do! Nurses play a critical role in how patients and families experience the healthcare system when they are at their most vulnerable, and it is essential to remember this.

In celebration of Nurses Week, we will post to celebrate every day until the 12th of May. This week, we encourage you to show appreciation to a nurse in your life. Here are some amazing ways we can honour our nurses in the upcoming week:
- Write a sincere handwritten card thanking a nurse for their service.
- Organise a wellness retreat to help our nurses relax and recharge.
- Create a Nursing Honour Roll, to recognise them for their accomplishments. This can be posted in any facility or public health unit for staff and residents’ families to view.
- Host a team Luncheon!
- Share our post on your story or share it with a nurse you know!

We'd like to say a huge thanks to the team at Good Morning Macarthur for highlighting the work we do ahead of the DCM Leaders Summit which was held this week. We're proud to be part of the wonderful community of Macarthur and to support the people within it.
