It's National Reconciliation Week, and this year's theme is All In.

Reconciliation Week asks all of us to step off the sidelines and do the work, not for one week in May but in how we show up the rest of the year.

In healthcare, that work sits close to home. Doctors are with people at their most vulnerable, and culturally safe care depends on listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and colleagues, and on understanding the histories that shape how people experience the health system.

What we can commit to is learning, listening properly, and backing the doctors doing this work in communities across the country.

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June, marking the 1967 referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision.

Two moments worth knowing, and a good place to start.

A guide for internationally trained doctors considering Australia.

If you trained overseas, the route to practising here is well defined, but it has specific steps, and the order matters.

It covers:

โ†’ The registration pathways
โ†’ The English language standard, and who's exempt from testing
โ†’ Section 19AB and the ten-year Medicare moratorium
โ†’ Visas, scaling, and how rural work can reduce your restrictions

If Australia's on your radar, it's a useful place to start: https://blueprintmedical.com.au/working-as-a-doctor-in-australia-a-guide-for-internationally-trained-doctors/

Why O&G consultants are going locum ๐Ÿฉบ

Locum work was once seen as a stopgap between permanent roles. In 2026, it's fast becoming a preferred career choice.

Here's why more O&G consultants are making the move:

โ†’ Flexibility and autonomy. Choosing when and where to work, without the administrative or political pressures of permanent positions.

โ†’ Lifestyle and wellbeing. Building the year around family, travel, or professional development, rather than the other way around.

โ†’ Financial reward. Locum O&G consultants are earning $2,500 to $3,500 per day, with travel and accommodation often included. Regional placements can far exceed permanent salaries.

โ†’ Purpose and variety. Exposure to new teams, systems, and patient communities across regional hospitals, city clinics, and teaching settings.

โ†’ Career development. A wider range of clinical environments sharpens adaptability, decision-making, and leadership skills that are harder to build in a single long-term post.

We're currently recruiting for high-paying locum O&G roles across Australia.

Dr Talat Uppal on why women's health has been overlooked for so long ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

Talat shares what needs to change in clinics, schools and workplaces, and the role technology is starting to play in closing the gap.

She's one of Australia's leading voices in women's health, the gynaecologist behind Bleed Better, the Director of Women's Health Road, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer in O&G at Macquarie University.

She also built Australia's first Abnormal Uterine Bleeding Management Hub.

โ†ณ Listen to the full ๐—•๐—น๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜€ episode to hear Dr Uppal share:

โ€ข Why a condition that affects 1 in 4 women is still widely normalised in families

โ€ข How she's using AI tools like Heidi to reshape every patient consult

โ€ข Working with CSIRO to build smarter clinical tools for women's health

If you work in women's health, are interested in AI in medicine, or want to understand why a common and treatable condition has been overlooked for so long, this one's worth a listen.

Today is International Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Day, and what a fitting day to share this episode.

We spoke with Dr Talat Uppal, the Sydney-based gynaecologist behind Bleed Better and the founder of the day itself.

Talat is one of Australia's leading voices in women's health, the Director of Women's Health Road, a Clinical Senior Lecturer in O&G at Macquarie University, and the woman who built Australia's first Abnormal Uterine Bleeding Management Hub.

Heavy menstrual bleeding affects 1 in 4 women of reproductive age. Most have been taught to live with it quietly. Talat is on a mission to change that.
