The hardest tool to carry isn’t in your bag.
​There’s a lot of focus on rates, rosters, and flight allowances in this industry. But we rarely talk about the cost of the ticket.

I didn’t start this company because I love recruitment.
Honestly? I started it because I was sick of seeing how it was being done.
​I've spent years watching good workers with years of experience get treated like inventory.
You know the drill. You’re just a "bum on a seat." A number on a spreadsheet to fill a roster.
The moment the contract ends, the phone stops ringing.

You can do everything right…
and still not get a job.

That’s a hard truth a lot of people don’t talk about.
Sometimes it’s not your effort, your skills, or your attitude holding you back.
Decisions can come down to timing, budgets, project delays, or choices made well above your control.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.

What does matter is focusing on the things you can control:

• How clearly your experience is shown on your resume
• How easy it is for employers to understand your skills
• Having the right tickets and licences visible and up to date
• Being honest about availability and expectations
• Showing consistency, reliability, and good communication

These things don’t guarantee a role — but they put you in the strongest possible position when opportunities do come up.
I know a lot of people are doing everything they can and still feeling stuck. If that’s you, you’re not alone.

Outback Labour Hire – a quick update
I wanted to share a transparent update on where Outback Labour Hire is at.
By March, I will be fully licensed, insured, and operational as a labour hire company — with uniforms, compliant contracts, systems, and payment processes all in place. Everything that sits within my control will be done.

I can’t guarantee immediate placements by March. (I am striving for that to be a reality) Ultimately, placements depend on employer decisions — not mine. What I can guarantee is that the foundations will be set properly and professionally, so when opportunities arise, we’re ready to move.

Right now, I’m continuing to support jobseekers however I realistically can — offering resume support, guidance, and honest conversations. I know many people are doing everything right and still not getting traction, and while my ability to change outcomes is limited at this stage, I want people to know I’m here to help where possible.

I’ve also started early conversations with partners who provide end-to-end RPL services and work closely with trusted Skilled Migration Agents. These discussions may open future pathways across trades and hospitality, including access to skilled workers locally and internationally — but this is still exploratory and being approached carefully.

Outback Labour Hire is being built deliberately, with a people-first focus and long-term workforce pathways in mind.
