Yesterday, SWN visited Paquita at Hobart Clothing Hub (charity partner of Thread Together) with Indianna and her Mum, Kylie, to find a suitable outfit for Indianna's upcoming interview.
Paquita spent an hour with Indianna, trying different styles, colours and designs until she found an outfit that she was happy, comfortable and confident in.
Initiatives like Hobart Clothing Hub assist to remove barriers, build confidence, and ensure young people, like Indianna, feel prepared as they take important steps toward the world of work.

SWN accompanied 8 DVR Skills Pathway Program participants from New Norfolk High School on a tour today of Boyer Paper Mill in the Derwent Valley.

Our tour was led by Chloe & Sandra, who shared their knowledge and insight into the history, processes, employment opportunities & plans for the future of Boyer. From its early beginnings in 1941, the mill became the worldโ€™s first producer of eucalypt newsprint, setting the stage for ongoing innovation in the paper manufacturing industry. Today, the mill operates on 565 hectares of land, with the paper operations occupying around 50 hectares of that area.

With the commissioning of a new Office Paper Sheeter, we also learned that Boyer Paper Mill is well underway to becoming Australiaโ€™s only manufacturer of office paper braded as 'Mandura'.

After more than 20 years of owning & operating a local small business in the Derwent Valley, Justin Rainbird decided to take a new direction and follow his passion to work within the Horticulture industry.

In 2025, Justin took part in the SWN Agri/Horticulture Skills Program, where he developed practical skills in pruning, chemical handling and communication. This helped build his confidence and skills as he worked towards a career change.

Following the program, Justin volunteered at New Norfolk Golf Club for approx. six months, gaining valuable experience before securing a paid Greenkeeper position at the club, where he has now been employed for the past six months.

SWN has enjoyed working with Justin throughout his career transition, assisting with his resume, covering letters, interview preparation, job searching, and ongoing career guidance.

Justinโ€™s story is a great example and shows that with hard work, determination, and the right support, itโ€™s never too late to change careers or pursue a role you are passionate about โ€” especially when that opportunity is within your local community!!

Luke Barger joined the Plenty C***r team in the Derwent Valley in May 2026 and has been gaining valuable experience and developing his skills within the distilling industry.

With support from SWN and Tas TAFE, Luke has recently completed his Forklift Licence, giving him an additional qualification and a valuable skill that he can use in his role at Plenty C***r.

Adam Dโ€™Arcy, Owner and Operator of Plenty C***r, was pleased to support Luke in gaining his licence and taking this next step in his professional development.
