From no Australian experience whatsoever to securing a FIFO role.

When this client first came to us, he had strong international electrical experience but no Australian work history.

That can be a major barrier when applying locally, particularly in electrical, construction and FIFO markets where employers want to quickly understand how overseas experience transfers to Australian worksites.

We repositioned his Resume to:

• Translate his international experience into language Australian employers understand
• Highlight safety-critical, defence, industrial and inspection experience
• Present his licensing pathway clearly and confidently
• Align his skills with FIFO, electrical and trade assistant opportunities
• Make his value obvious within seconds

The result:

• Secured a FIFO position on a 2/1 roster
• Starting rate of $52 per hour as a Trades Assistant
• Pathway to $75 per hour once fully licensed
• Offered another role in Senegal
• Received multiple interview requests for city-based positions

His feedback says it all:

“I would say the CV was a success mate.”

A strong Resume cannot create experience that is not there, but it can make sure the experience you do have is understood, valued and positioned correctly.

Great result from a recent client who just broke into mining..

He came to me from a farming and remote work background, with experience across agriculture, station work, winery operations, machinery, long shifts and physically demanding roles.

The goal was simple:

Break into mining.

The challenge was making sure the resume did not undersell him just because he had not worked in mining before.

We repositioned his experience around what mining employers actually look for:

• Remote site readiness
• Long shift reliability
• Safety awareness
• Machinery experience
• Physical resilience
• Teamwork
• Willingness to work hard and start at entry level

And the result?

He has now landed an offsider role.

This is exactly why your resume needs to connect the dots for employers.

If you are trying to move from farming, construction, hospitality, warehousing or another hands-on background into mining, your experience may be more relevant than you think.

It just needs to be presented the right way.

Another great result for a recent Boilermaker client.

After updating his resume, he applied for around 20 roles over the past three weeks and secured 4 interviews.

Today, he let me know he has progressed to the medical stage for the role he was most excited about.

This is a great reminder that a resume's job is not to get you hired. Its job is to get you noticed, get you interviews and get you in front of decision-makers.

When your resume clearly communicates your skills, experience and value, opportunities start to open up.

Wishing him all the best for the medical and hopefully a job offer shortly.

If you're applying for jobs and not getting the response you deserve, it may be time to review your resume.

I received this email from a client today:

"I've applied for 6 jobs in the past week and already had 2 recruiters call me. The resume and cover letter have been received well."

Messages like this never get old.

A resume won't get you every job.

But it should get you noticed.

If you're sending out application after application and hearing nothing back, don't automatically assume you're the problem. Sometimes the issue is simply that your experience isn't being marketed properly.

Good luck to everyone currently job hunting. Keep putting yourself out there.

Not every success story ends with accepting the first job offer.

One of my clients recently checked in after applying for just four roles.

The result?

✅ 2 interviews secured

✅ Strong interest from employers

✅ Turned down both opportunities because the pay and conditions weren't right

That's the position you want to be in.

The goal isn't just getting interviews.

The goal is having enough interest from employers that you can choose the right opportunity rather than settling for the wrong one.

Good resumes don't create miracles.

They create opportunities.

A year ago, Brendan was looking for a change.

He wanted to move his career in a new direction and break into project coordination, but like many people making a career transition, the challenge was getting employers to see the value of the experience he already had.

Fast forward to today.

✅ Successfully landed a new role as a Project Coordinator

✅ Made a genuine career change

✅ Settled into the role and loving it so far

Here's what Brendan recently told me:

"Appreciate you reaching out, I have landed a new role and career change as a Project Coordinator, so far has been great and a big part was my fantastic resume."

Stories like this are why I love what I do.

A resume won't get you the job on its own, but it can absolutely help bridge the gap between where you are today and where you want your career to go next.

Congratulations Brendan. Wishing you every success in this next chapter.

🎉 CLIENT SUCCESS STORY 🎉

Sometimes it only takes one application.

A recent client reached out after applying for just one role following the completion of their resume.

The result?

✅ Over 300 applicants for the position
✅ Shortlisted into the top few candidates
✅ Direct feedback from the business owner that their CV was "very impressive"

The role is currently on hold while they recover from knee surgery, but the employer is planning to reconnect later this month.

A great reminder that a strong resume isn't about applying for hundreds of jobs. It's about presenting yourself professionally and giving employers confidence that you're worth speaking to.

Wishing Sabrina a speedy recovery and keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome in the coming weeks. 🤞

Just because the file name says:

“FirstName_LastName_Professional_Resume.pdf”

…does not actually mean it’s professional 😅

I review resumes every day across FIFO, mining, shutdowns, trades, engineering and white collar roles and honestly, some of the resumes people have paid good money for are:
• full of generic buzzwords
• hard to read
• badly formatted
• outdated
• not ATS friendly
• missing key industry keywords
• too long
• too vague
• not aligned to the actual jobs being applied for

A professional resume should:
• sell your value quickly
• be easy to scan
• target the role properly
• pass ATS systems
• highlight achievements and transferable skills
• position you competitively in the current market

Not just look fancy or have “professional” in the file name 😂

I offer free resume health checks for people wanting honest feedback on:
• FIFO resumes
• mining resumes
• shutdown resumes
• trades resumes
• engineering resumes
• government applications
• LinkedIn profiles

Sometimes small changes can make a massive difference to call backs and interview rates.

Another great update from a client pursuing one of WA’s most competitive roles - the PTA Trainee Train Driver Program.

This application was not just about “making a resume look good”.

The strategy was heavily focused on understanding exactly what PTA recruitment panels are looking for in high-volume, safety-critical recruitment processes.

Fort his client, we worked on:

• Positioning transferable experience correctly for a safety-critical environment
• Demonstrating reliability, procedures, communication and situational awareness
• Strengthening examples aligned to the selection criteria and behavioural expectations
• Structuring the application to be clear, easy to follow and ATS friendly
• Refining wording to sound professional, genuine and operationally focused
• Building a stronger overall narrative around suitability for train operations and public transport environments

Result so far?

✔ Progressed through initial application stage
✔ Invited to complete the SCAAT aptitude testing
✔ Also receiving interview activity from other employers at the same time

These competitive roles are rarely about “just having experience”.

Strategy, positioning, structure and understanding the recruitment process properly can make a massive difference.
