AI is already changing the workforce, and it’s raising some big questions about job security.

This 9 News Perth story highlights a growing concern: entry-level white-collar roles are the most exposed to automation, with many traditional university graduate pathways becoming less certain.

While some roles are being redefined by AI, hands-on, trade-based careers continue to hold strong. These are jobs that require practical skills, problem-solving in real environments, and human judgement. These are things that cannot be replicated by a system.

With the rise of AI, trades aren’t just an alternative pathway. They’re becoming a strategic career choice for long-term stability.

If you’re thinking about where the opportunities are heading, it’s worth considering where skills are still needed, now and into the future.

Charli is already making an impact.

Currently completing a school-based traineeship at Busselton Hospital, she’s gaining hands on experience, meeting new people and doing what she loves most, helping others.

What Reconciliation Week means to her says it all. “Being able to do what I do now means a lot me, especially when I think about what my ancestors have been through.”

Through this journey, Charli has found connection, support and the opportunity to grow, not only in her career, but in herself.

This Reconciliation Week, we’re all in for creating opportunities, building understanding and supporting the next generation to thrive. Stories like Charli’s remind us that reconciliation is about walking forward together, with respect, shared learning and a commitment to a better future for all.

Are you a tradie who owns your own business? Now is the best time to plan to grow your workforce.

The WA Government have released an extension to the Group Training Organisation (GTO) Wage Subsidy Program where you can get up to 75% off apprenticeship wages.

These places are limited, and access to the subsidy is only available through a GTO, like Skill Hire. Early preparation is key to increasing your chances of securing a funded apprentice.
